WILMINGTON, North Carolina \u2013 The UNCW men’s basketball program will return six players, headlined by All-Coastal Athletic Association First Teamer Patrick Wessler<\/a>, from last season’s roster for the 2026-27 campaign.<\/p>\n

Wessler is accompanied by rising seniors Jahnathan Lamothe<\/a> and Gavin Walsh<\/a>, along with Makel Smith<\/a>, to form the early nucleus of next year’s roster. In addition, All-CAA Preseason First Teamer CJ Luster II<\/a> and freshman Matija Prodanovic<\/a> return to the program after missing 2025-26 due to injury.<\/p>\n

A native of Matthews, N..C, Wessler proved to be the league’s top big man, averaging 13.6 points and 9.5 rebounds while starting all 34 contests in his first season at UNCW. The 7-footer paced the CAA with 17 double-doubles.<\/p>\n

Walsh and Lamothe were key regulars in year one in the Port City despite missing time with injuries. Walsh averaged 9.5 points and 6.5 rebounds across 15 games, including a pair of double-doubles, while Lamothe reached double figures off the bench four times during the stretch run that featured a season-high 17-point effort in a win at Campbell.<\/p>\n

Luster earned All-CAA Third-Team status in 2024-25 at Stony Brook before transferring to UNCW last summer. The Denton, Texas, native averaged 16.8 points and was one of the CAA’s top three-point shooters two years ago, connecting at a 42.1 percent clip (102-of-242) from beyond the arc.<\/p>\n

Smith appeared in eight contests for the 2026 CAA regular season champions while Prodanovic is a 6-11, 230-pound forward from Uzice, Serbia.<\/p>\n

The deadline for men’s season ticket renewals is June 3, 2026.<\/p>\n
