Cafes, restaurants, pharmacies and petrol stations remain broadly exempt from restrictions.

Western Australia closes major retail

In Western Australia, general retail shops remain closed all day, meaning most major chains will not open.

Small retail shops face no trading restrictions and can open at any time, while “special retail shops” such as pharmacies and hardware stores may trade between 6am and 11.30pm.

Dining venues, cafes and service stations can open freely.

Tasmania opens after lunch

Tasmanian businesses are largely restricted from opening before 12.30pm.

Standard exemptions apply to pharmacies, newsagents, bottle shops, service stations and hospitality venues.

Smaller shops outside major shopping centres can also trade if they employ no more than 10 staff.

ACT and NT fully deregulated

ACT and Northern Territory residents face the least disruption, with trading hours fully deregulated.

Businesses, including major supermarkets and retailers, can open all day, although some may operate on reduced public holiday hours.

Who gets the extra public holiday?

Not every state receives an additional day off when Anzac Day falls on a weekend, with only the ACT, NSW and Western Australia observing a substitute public holiday on Monday, April 27.

The NT, Queensland, Tasmania and Victoria will not receive an extra weekday holiday.

With rules differing widely across the country, shoppers are urged to check local trading hours before heading out this Anzac Day weekend.

Australians planning a grocery run or weekend shopping trip this Anzac Day may need to think twice, with…

[4
16296,64,63,689,7292,304704,297835,224416,304687,304697,304705,152906,55866,304692,304698,304700,232099,278076,304706,283354,304701,304695,44,187436,8867,677,304707,157795,97170,304693,304688,304686,124303,224790,111190,304696,1124,304699,304689,304702,304690,304694,660,304703,304691
0":"post-628641","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-australia","8":"tag-andrew-henshaw","9":"tag-au","10":"tag-australia","11":"tag-australia-and-new-zealand","12":"tag-australian-capital-territory","13":"tag-australian-state","14":"tag-bianca-de-marchi","15":"tag-big-w","16":"tag-bottle-shops","17":"tag-dan-murphy","18":"tag-dan-peled","19":"tag-department-stores","20":"tag-essential-services","21":"tag-exempt-businesses","22":"tag-grocery-run","23":"tag-grocery-stores","24":"tag-hardware-stores","25":"tag-hospitality-venues","26":"tag-independent-retailers","27":"tag-kmart-corporation","28":"tag-live-entertainment-venues","29":"tag-means-supermarkets","30":"tag-news","31":"tag-newswire-news","32":"tag-northern-territory","33":"tag-oceania","34":"tag-opening-rule","35":"tag-petrol-stations","36":"tag-public-holiday","37":"tag-remembrance-falls","38":"tag-retail-businesses","39":"tag-retail-shops","40":"tag-retail-trading","41":"tag-service-stations","42":"tag-shopping-centres","43":"tag-shopping-rules","44":"tag-south-australia","45":"tag-special-retail-shops","46":"tag-strict-trading-limits","47":"tag-strictest-retail-restrictions","48":"tag-time-limits","49":"tag-trading-restrictions","50":"tag-victoria","51":"tag-victoria-pauses","52":"tag-weekday-holiday
["GET
