\n\tEXCLUSIVE: He may be at the upcoming Cannes<\/a> Film Festival to preside over the jury<\/a>, but Park Chan-Wook<\/a> will also be heating up the market with a movie package that has serious firepower behind it.<\/p>\n

\n\tPark is assembling an A-list cast for his passion project Western The Brigands of\u00a0Rattlecreek, with Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey<\/a> (Interstellar), Oscar nominee Austin Butler<\/a> (Dune: Part Two), four-time Emmy nominee Pedro Pascal<\/a> (The Last of Us) and Chinese star Tang Wei (Decision to Leave) all aboard for the ride.<\/p>\n

\n\tS. Craig Zahler (Bone Tomahawk)\u2019s original screenplay is moving forward as Oldboy and The Handmaiden director Park\u2019s next film, which will be on sale in Cannes with Patrick Wachsberger\u2019s Legendary label 193 for producer Bradley Fischer and Park. Park did revisions on most recent draft.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe movie is understood to follow a sheriff and a doctor who seek revenge against a group of bandits who use the cover of a torrential thunderstorm to rob and terrorize the occupants of a small town. The story will alight on themes central to Park\u2019s oeuvre of vengeance, retribution, the consequences of violence and the power of memory and family, but this time in the American West.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tProducing are Fischer\u00a0(Zodiac), and Park\u00a0for\u00a0Moho\u00a0Film\u00a0(No Other Choice).\u00a0Jisun\u00a0Back for Moho Film,\u00a0Mike\u00a0Medavoy and Georgia\u00a0Kacandes\u00a0are executive producers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tPark has been keen to make the Black List script for more than a decade; the project first came to light more than 20 years ago and Warner Bros and Amazon have both been attached at different times. The project now has more impetus than ever: it\u2019s a rare package in the indie market for its combination of genuine A-list talent, a beloved filmmaker and the genre. Despite being available (for now) in the indie space, the project\u2019s scope remains impressive and we hear the budget is being pegged north of $60M. Bone Tomahawk remains one of the most entertaining westerns of the past 20 years and there\u2019ll be plenty of people willing this one to get made.<\/p>\n

\n\tKorean auteur Park is coming off acclaimed crime-comedy No Other Choice, which debuted at Cannes, scored three Golden Globe nominations and more than $40M worldwide. His previous English-language projects include limited series The Sympathizer, miniseries The Little Drummer Girl and Fox Searchlight\u2019s Stoker. <\/p>\n
