Minjee Lee, Angel Yin and Jennifer Kupcho all made the cut on the number.<\/p>\n Patty Tavatanakit moves into solo second with late birdie<\/p>\n Nelly Korda has held a seven-shot lead for most of the day, but that lead is now down to six after Patty Tavatanakit made birdie on No. 8, her second-to-last hole, to get to 8 under. She made par on the ninth to cap off a bogey-free 69 and will likely be in the final pairing with Korda on Saturday.<\/p>\n Nelly is running away with this thing<\/p>\n So much for tightening up during the second round at the Chevron Championship. Despite a bogey on the sixth hole, Korda has extended her lead, and as of 1:30 p.m. ET, she’s at 12 under, and owns a six-stroke edge on the field.<\/p>\n Yuka Saso is on a heater<\/p>\n After an opening round that saw her post five bogeys, Japanese star Yuka Saso got her game together on Friday during the second round at Memorial Park, draining three birdies on her first nine and then three in succession after the turn to get to 4 under for the tournament. Saso has a pair of major titles, winning the U.S. Open in both 2021 and 2024. But her best finish at the Chevron was a T-17 back in 2022.<\/p>\n Stacy Lewis’s final putt? Right in the heart<\/p>\n Two-time major champion Stacy Lewis didn’t make the cut at the Chevron, but she did go out in style on her way to retirement. Lewis brought her dad on the bag for the final hole at Memorial Park and then sunk a putt on her way out the door. Touching stuff.<\/p>\n How are the crowds at Memorial Park?<\/p>\n On Thursday, the crowds at the Chevron, which was moved to Memorial Park this year to be closer to the city of Houston, were below average. On Friday, at least with leader Nelly Korda, the crowds are a bit better, but still not overwhelming.<\/p>\n Texas star shining in second round<\/p>\n Farah O’Keefe, a University of Texas star, is still in the top 5 at the Chevron through the early going. O’Keefe, who turns 21 on June 6, won three of her last five college starts and is currently ranked fourth in the world.<\/p>\n Korda makes birdie early, still in lead<\/p>\n Nelly Korda, who opened the day with the lead, made a birdie on the second hole and as of 11:15 a.m., she’s at 8 under for the tournament, three strokes ahead of the field.<\/p>\n What happened in the first round at the 2026 Chevron?<\/p>\n Nelly Korda walked off the golf course late Thursday afternoon pleased with every part of her game. The world No. 2’s opening 7-under 65 is her second-lowest round opening round at a major championship<\/a>, behind a 64 at the 2022 Evian. She leads by two over former Chevron champion Patty Tavatanakit and Somi Lee.<\/p>\n A rain-soaked Memorial Park played long, just the way Korda likes it. She began the day with a long putt to save par and got stronger as the round progressed. On her second nine, she hit a 6-iron into the par-3 second for birdie to 4 feet, and a 5-iron into the par-3 seventh to 5 feet. She birdied four of the five par 5s, a key part to her two previous major wins. She took 24 putts on the day.<\/p>\n “What was I impressed with?
