{"id":62901,"date":"2025-08-12T15:57:07","date_gmt":"2025-08-12T15:57:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/62901\/"},"modified":"2025-08-12T15:57:07","modified_gmt":"2025-08-12T15:57:07","slug":"johnny-depp-having-pirates-of-the-caribbean-6-talks-producer-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/62901\/","title":{"rendered":"Johnny Depp Having &#8216;Pirates of the Caribbean 6&#8217; Talks, Producer Says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/johnny-depp\/\" id=\"auto-tag_johnny-depp\" data-tag=\"johnny-depp\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Johnny Depp<\/a> is possibly eyeing a return as Jack Sparrow in a sixth \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/pirates-of-the-caribbean\/\" id=\"auto-tag_pirates-of-the-caribbean\" data-tag=\"pirates-of-the-caribbean\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pirates of the Caribbean<\/a>\u201d movie, at least according to franchise producer <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/jerry-bruckheimer\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jerry-bruckheimer\" data-tag=\"jerry-bruckheimer\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jerry Bruckheimer<\/a>. In a new interview with<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/ew.com\/jerry-bruckheimer-thinks-johnny-depp-will-do-sixth-pirates-movie-11789189?taid=689b3ba7a76c7c0001e97e81&amp;utm_campaign=trueAnthem%3A+New+Content+%28Feed%29&amp;utm_medium=trueAnthem&amp;utm_source=twitter\" target=\"_blank\"> Entertainment Weekly<\/a>, Bruckheimer confirmed he has spoken to Depp about a new \u201cPirates\u201d movie. The producer feels optimistic that Jack Sparrow could be back.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cIf he likes the way the part\u2019s written, I think he would do it,\u201d Bruckheimer told EW. \u201cIt\u2019s all about what\u2019s on the page, as we all know\u2026 We are still working on a screenplay. We want to make it. We just got to get the right screenplay. We haven\u2019t quite gotten there yet, but we\u2019re close.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tDepp headlined five \u201cPirates\u201d movies from 2003 to 2017, all of which grossed more than $650 million at the worldwide box office. 2006\u2019s \u201cDead Man\u2019s Chest\u201d and 2011\u2019s \u201cOn Stranger Tides\u201d both topped the $1 billion mark. His future with the Disney-backed series has been a question mark following his legal troubles and his 2022 libel trial against Amber Heard.\u00a0With Depp now mounting a Hollywood comeback with the Lionsgate action-thriller \u201cDay Drinker,\u201d it\u2019s only put more speculation over whether Disney would welcome him back him (and vice versa). With Depp front and center, the \u201cPirates\u201d movies have collectively grossed $4.5 billion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe road to a new \u201cPirates\u201d movie has been a long one. Variety\u00a0reported in summer 2020 that Disney was in early development on two \u201cPirates\u201d movies: A reboot led by Margot Robbie and a sixth film in the original franchise written by Craig Mazin and Ted Elliott, the latter of whom co-wrote the first four \u201cPirates\u201d movies. Robbie ended up telling\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/hollywood\/2022\/11\/margot-robbie-cover-babylon-star-on-navigating-hollywood\">Vanity Fair<\/a>\u00a0in November 2022 that Disney was not interested in her \u201cmore of a female-led\u201d movie, although Bruckheimer downplayed the claim by later telling <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ew.com\/pirates-of-the-caribbean-reboot-margot-robbie-movie-exclusive-8651023?taid=664b6d2fd740d60001d56f58&amp;utm_campaign=entertainmentweekly_entertainmentweekly&amp;utm_content=new&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter.com\">EW <\/a>there\u2019s still room for both \u201cPirates\u201d movies to exist and \u201cI think Disney agrees they really want to make the Margot one, too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAs for the other \u201cPirates\u201d movie, Bruckheimer told <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ew.com\/pirates-of-the-caribbean-reboot-margot-robbie-movie-exclusive-8651023?taid=664b6d2fd740d60001d56f58&amp;utm_campaign=entertainmentweekly_entertainmentweekly&amp;utm_content=new&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter.com\">EW<\/a> last summer that screenwriter Jeff Nathanson\u00a0had boarded the project. Nathanson wrote the script for the last \u201cPirates\u201d movie, 2017\u2019s \u201cDead Men Tell No Tales.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cHe\u2019s cracked it,\u201d Bruckheimer said at the time of Nathanson\u2019s script. \u201cHe\u2019s got an amazing third act. We just gotta clean up the first and second and then we\u2019ll get there. But he wrote a great, great third act.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWhether or not Nathanson\u2019s script is a new draft of Mazin\u2019s or an entirely original screenplay remains to be seen. Mazin\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/awards\/story\/2023-08-19\/craig-mazin-the-last-of-us-writers-strike\">told the Los Angeles Times\u00a0<\/a>last year that his script for \u201cPirates\u00a06\u2033 was so weird he was surprised Disney signed off on it, adding: \u201cWe pitched it and thought there\u2019s no way they\u2019re buying it, it\u2019s too weird. And they did! And then we wrote a fantastic script and the strike happened and everyone\u2019s waiting around.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBruckheimer <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2024\/film\/news\/pirates-of-the-caribbean-6-producer-johnny-depp-1236010553\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">also said last summer<\/a> that he would be open to bringing Depp back for the Nathanson-penned movie, explaining: \u201cIt\u2019s a reboot, but if it was up to me, [Johnny] would be in it. I love him. He\u2019s a good friend. He\u2019s an amazing artist and he\u2019s a unique look. He created Captain Jack. That was not on the page, that was him doing a little Pep\u00e9 Le Pew and Keith Richards. That was his interpretation of Jack Sparrow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tDepp\u2019s last Hollywood studio movie was 2018\u2019s \u201cFantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.\u201d He had just finished his first day of filming the sequel, \u201cFantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore,\u201d when Warner Bros. asked him to exit the movie a day after he\u00a0lost his 2020 libel trial against The Sun.
