Doesn\u2019t gas cost more to manufacture than diesel? <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">There was a time when it was cheaper to manufacture diesel than gasoline, but that changed about 20 years ago.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Several factors have contributed to making diesel more expensive.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"link | text-reset d-block h-100 w-100\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wkyt.com\/page\/wkyt-apps-for-ios-and-android-devices\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_self\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" alt=\"WKYT Streaming Apps\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/MEPHTWNVMREWLEQQWWFJM27ZMA.png\" width=\"980\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">A requirement that diesel fuel in the United States be ultra-low sulfur diesel helped cut down on emissions and lowered pollution, but it also increased the manufacturing cost.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Diesel is heavily used in multiple industries that continue to expand, like trucking, shipping, agriculture and construction.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The federal excise tax for on-highway diesel fuel is 6 cents higher than the tax on gasoline.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The time of year can also play a role. Diesel and heating oil come from similar parts of the refining process.
