The Boston Red Sox fired manager Alex Cora on Saturday, the team announced, as the team\u2019s 17-1 win against the Baltimore Orioles wasn\u2019t enough to dissuade the club from making massive changes after a 10-17 start.<\/p>\n
The Red Sox also parted ways with five members of the major-league coaching staff: hitting coach Peter Fatse, third-base coach Kyle Hudson, bench coach Ram\u00f3n V\u00e1zquez, assistant hitting coach Dillon Lawson and major-league league hitting strategy coach Joe Cronin. Game-planning coach Jason Varitek has been reassigned to a new role within the organization.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlex Cora led this organization to one of the greatest seasons in Red Sox history in 2018, and for that, and the many years that followed, he will always have our deepest gratitude,\u201d Red Sox principal owner John Henry said in a team statement. \u201cHe has had a lasting impact on this team and on this city. He has led on and off the field in so many important ways. These decisions are never easy, but this one is especially difficult given what Alex has meant to the Red Sox since the day he arrived.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want to thank Alex, our coaches, and their families for everything they have given to this organization. They have been part of this club in a way that goes beyond the field, and they will always have our respect and gratitude.\u201d<\/p>\n
Chad Tracy will take over as the team\u2019s interim manager. Tracy has managed the team\u2019s Triple-A team in Worcester since 2022. Chad Epperson, who\u2019s managed for Double-A Portland since 2022, will serve as the interim third-base coach. Collin Hetzler will leave his position as Triple-A Worcester\u2019s hitting coach to join the major-league hitting staff.<\/p>\n
