However, the hosts quickly pulled away in the latter stages of the half with Marlie Packer and Meg Jones adding their names to the scoresheet too.

Wales did get one of their own via Kelsey Jones, but it proved only a momentary pause in momentum as the England skipper grabbed her second on the stroke of half-time to make it 29-12 at the break.

That try seemed to re-ignite the Red Roses’ attacking flair, with Amy Cokayne, Moloney-MacDonald and Jess Breach going over for further scores to make it 55-12 just after the hour mark.

Northampton v Bath: Five takeaways as Fin Smith saves Saints’ blushes while Johann van Graan’s ‘B team’ claim ‘psychological victory’

Wales weren’t going down without a fight, though, with captain Bethan Lewis and Seren Lockwood making sure they took a crucial bonus point back across the bridge, but they came either side of a Maud Muir try to push England past the 60-point mark.

Italy 41-14 Scotland

Italy v Scotland was one of the more interesting Tests of the weekend, with both sides suffering heavy defeats in round two, and this felt like a good opportunity to get back into the winners’ column. It would be the hosts who took that chance, coming away 41-14 victors.

Italy raced into a 29-0 lead by half-time thanks to braces from Alyssa D’Inca and Vittoria Zanette alongside a score from Aura Muzzo.

That lead quickly became 34-0 after the break, with Vittoria Vecchini adding her side’s fifth of the afternoon just four minutes into the half.

Scotland were next on the scoreboard as Lana Skeldon crossed for their first of the afternoon, but it was only a momentary reprieve as Giordana Duca got Italy’s sixth just six minutes after.

The visitors did have the last laugh, though, with Molly Poolman dotting down, but it was mere conciliation as Italy had already secured a resounding victory.

Want more from Planet Rugby?
