{"id":632644,"date":"2026-04-26T19:58:10","date_gmt":"2026-04-26T19:58:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/632644\/"},"modified":"2026-04-26T19:58:10","modified_gmt":"2026-04-26T19:58:10","slug":"jorge-martins-jerez-motogp-victory-hopes-fade-after-amazing-first-lap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/632644\/","title":{"rendered":"Jorge Martin\u2019s Jerez MotoGP victory hopes fade after \u201camazing\u201d first lap"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jorge Martin more than overturned his three-place grid penalty when a lightning start at the Spanish MotoGP set up a tenth to fourth charge in the opening corners.<\/p>\n<p>That became third after Marc Marquez crashed, prompting Martin to ponder a possible victory chance.<\/p>\n<p>However, the 2024 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/motogp\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">MotoGP<\/a> champion&#8217;s challenge began to fade when rear grip issues emerged, allowing Fabio di Giannantonio to pass him for the final podium place.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI made a super start and was already fourth after a few corners,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/motogp\/racer\/973236\/jorge-martin\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Martin <\/a>said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was really happy and thought at that point \u2018maybe you can win this race\u2019.<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut afterwards the feeling with the rear tyre was the worst of the weekend and I couldn\u2019t match the pace of the podium guys.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The problem was not only evident under acceleration, but also in braking.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was sliding too much and I couldn&#8217;t go any faster. I was stuck there, just controlling a bit Johann Zarco and Raul Fernandez behind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With team-mate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/motogp\/racer\/995158\/marco-bezzecchi\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Marco Bezzecchi <\/a>finishing second to Alex Marquez, Martin now trails the championship leader by 11 points.<\/p>\n<p>Martin is targeting improvements in rear grip during Monday\u2019s Jerez test, where he plans to evaluate parts not yet in use on his RS-GP.<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;m really happy that tomorrow we have a test,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are a few parts that I&#8217;m not using still on the bike that maybe for sure they will help me because the other riders are using them.
