Greyhound Racing SA says two of its employees have been sacked and one has resigned, over alleged direct or indirect wagering activity.<\/p>\n

In March, the controlling body announced five members of the integrity team were being stood down, pending an investigation.<\/p>\n

It has since confirmed two of its employees have been fired, following the March audit of wagering accounts.<\/p>\n

In 2023, an independent inquiry into SA’s greyhound racing industry made 87 recommendations<\/a> and it was given two years to improve its standards or risk being banned in the state.<\/p>\n

A statement on the GRSA website said of the two employees that were fired, one was a permanent staff member and the other was casual.<\/p>\n

GRSA also confirmed one casual employee chose to resign, following the allegations.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Two employees, both permanent staff, have been reinstated, the statement read.<\/p>\n

“With specific regard to the employees whose services have been terminated, both are able to apply and be considered for other non-integrity related employment with GRSA,” the statement said.<\/p>\n

“GRSA is aware that the employee investigations have been subjected to a level of speculation and media interest, including suggestions of race fixing, race manipulation and exploitation of greyhounds.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“As such, it is important that GRSA confirm that it has also undertaken an investigation into whether any of the wagering activity was connected to any form of corruption.<\/p>\n

“This investigation has not revealed any level of corruption, including race fixing, race manipulation or animal exploitation.<\/p>\n

“Whilst the investigation has been extensive, GRSA can advise that, for completeness, all source information and findings are being further reviewed by an interstate integrity controlling body.”<\/p>\n

GRSA said it would provide further advice should there be any variation in the findings of the reviewing controlling body.<\/p>\n

Minister urges industry to take outcome seriously<\/p>\n

Minister for Recreation, Sport and Racing Rhiannon Pearce said the recent investigation was proof that the industry was trying to improve.<\/p>\n

“There’s been recommendations made for the industry to level up and meet community expectations,” Ms Pearce told the ABC.<\/p>\n

“Through one of them being met we have picked up behaviour that is not considered appropriate.<\/p>\n

“Knowing that has been investigated and further action has been taken is good to see, it’s what we want to see more of.”<\/p>\n

Ms Pearce said all allegations of misconduct would continue to be investigated thoroughly.<\/p>\n

“If there is bad behaviour occurring, I absolutely want it to get picked up,” she said.<\/p>\n

“If more is to come, that means that there’s a clear mark that this behaviour is not acceptable at all.<\/p>\n
