The South Sydney Rabbitohs<\/a> are dealing with a further two injuries after their epic 48-6 win over the Melbourne Storm on Saturday with Brandon Smith set for more time on the sideline. This comes as Brendan Piakura is set to miss a month with a knee injury suffered in the Brisbane Broncos’<\/a> win over the Bulldogs.<\/p>\n

Latrell Mitchell and Tallis Duncan led the Rabbitohs to an astonishing win over the Storm at AAMI Park with the second-rower scoring three tries. Craig Bellamy admitted he was ’embarrassed’ after the defeat having nearly conceded 50 for the second time this season.<\/p>\n

The Rabbitohs were dominant throughout the contest, but they could be without two stars for the upcoming games. Smith left the field the first-half with a calf injury. Filling in at second-row for the game, Smith was seen on the sideline after limping from the field. Smith missed the start of the season with what is believed to be the same injury and only recently returned.<\/p>\n

The versatile star was looking in good form before his latest setback. While he hasn’t been officially ruled out this week, it could keep him sidelines just for the clash against the Knights. Coach Wayne Bennett suggested they were hoping Smith would be available.<\/p>\n

‘NRL Physio’ Brien Seeney claimed it could take a couple of weeks to recover from the calf injury, but not much longer. While Smith might be unavailable, Adam Elliot could be available. The forward hasn’t played since signing with the club in the off-season.<\/p>\n

He tore his bicep in Round 12 last year for the Knights, but left the club to join the Rabbitohs. And the forward could be available to play against his former team this weekend. Unfortunately, Smith wasn’t the only star to leave the field for the Rabbitohs. Halfback Jamie Humphreys left with a few minutes to go after appearing to injure his ribs.<\/p>\n

The halfback is also a doubt to face the Knights and it could pose a problem for the Rabbitohs. Humphreys has struck up a solid partnership with Cody Walker since his return from suspension.<\/p>\n

Brisbane Broncos injury crisis gets worse<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, the Broncos’ injury crisis has taken another turn with Piakura looking at a month on the sideline. The second-rower was back from a pre-season knee injury, but reports claim the forward is set for another month on the sideline.<\/p>\n

Seeney claimed it was the ‘least commonly injured’ knee ligament and usually takes around four weeks to recover. Piakura’s injury is yet another blow to a depleted Broncos outfit. During their gritty win over the Bulldogs, the Broncos were missing Payne Haas, Reece Walsh, Ben Hunt, Patrick Carrigan, Corey Jensen, Grant Anderson and Jesse Arthars.<\/p>\n

They are set to welcome back Carrigan from suspension this week and Walsh is a possibility.
