AFL 360 showed a host of examples where either effective Richmond tackles weren\u2019t rewarded, or when Tigers players were penalised on the other end of the stick. <\/p>\n
Asked about how \u2018holding-the-ball\u2019 has looked this season, Melbourne coach Steven King told AFL 360 on Monday night it\u2019d \u201cbeen inconsistent\u201d. <\/p>\n
\u201cI think we probably got the rub of the green on Friday night, when you look back at it, but I\u2019ve had other games where I\u2019ve felt like it\u2019s just the inconsistencies at times,\u201d he said on Fox Footy. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe speed and the ferocity with which the players are tackling \u2014 it can be frustrating at times \u2014 but I do understand the umpires have a very hard job to do as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

Probed on which part of the rule needs most attention, King said: \u201cI think prior, how long the players have to break tackles. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe all coach our players to try and be strong and drive tackles, and then if it\u2019s not paid straight away, how long (until) it then becomes a dangerous act where players can risk injury? I think that\u2019s the fine line with it all. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe rate tackling, and broken tackles are an asterisk next to a player\u2019s name, so they\u2019re going to try and tackle with real intent, and I\u2019d love to see it rewarded consistently.\u201d<\/p>\n
Earlier on Monday, Swann said the feedback from clubland had been that the state of umpiring was a big positive. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s really clear, there\u2019s plenty of vision we sent to the clubs at the start of the year (on) how it was all going to be adjudicated,\u201d Swann said. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s probably the toughest rule in the book \u2026 (but) I would have thought, if you take away the ARC issues, most of the feedback we\u2019ve had from clubs is that the umpiring has been as good as it\u2019s been for a long time. <\/p>\n
