McLaren will make history in Miami by starting its 1000th Formula 1 Grand Prix, and Andrea Stella confirms it will celebrate it with some timely upgrades.<\/p>\n

Having started in 1966, McLaren will join Ferrari in an exclusive club with 1000 or more Grand Prix starts.<\/p>\n

The famous British team hopes it will mark the occasion by taking another step forward in the new era of F1.<\/p>\n

Last time out in Japan, McLaren improved significantly and appeared faster than Ferrari, with Mercedes\u2019 nearest competitor, as a poorly timed Safety Car cost Oscar Piastri a shot at victory.<\/p>\n

After no racing for more than a month, F1 finally returns this weekend in Miami, kicking off one of the more defining periods of the season.<\/p>\n

Not only have the regulations been slightly tweaked, addressing some concerns established in the first three races, but all teams will bring a host of upgrades.<\/p>\n

McLaren will be one of them, with Team Principal Andrea Stella confirming the MCL40 will be modified at both Miami and Montreal.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur winter plans had already established that the May races in North America \u2013 first in Miami and then in Montreal \u2013 would see the introduction of the first upgrades of the car from its original version, which has essentially been on track since the Bahrain tests,\u201d Stella told McLaren\u2019s website.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe plan to introduce a comprehensive package of aerodynamic solutions, which will be phased in between the two Grand Prix events.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will certainly not be straightforward to introduce them over two Sprint weekends, given the limited time available for any comparative testing with just one hour of Free Practice each weekend, but we are confident that what we bring to the track should deliver the performance we expect.<\/p>\n

\u201cSaying that, the other 10 teams have also had the same opportunity to work on developing their packages.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t expect there to be any revolutionary shifts in the pecking order, but we aim to reduce the performance gap to the frontrunners in the coming races.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite such a tough start to 2026 being unable to start either of the first two races in Australia and China, Piastri\u2019s attitude has left a lasting impression on Stella.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very pleased with how Oscar and Lando are working, both with the team and with each other,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019ve been teammates for over three years now, and I don\u2019t think I\u2019ve ever seen such a relaxed atmosphere between them \u2013 it is never a given with teammates in this sport.<\/p>\n

\u201cOscar in particular, who was coming off a rather complicated end to last season and has started this one with two setbacks (in Australia and China) that could have left a lasting impact, is demonstrating a maturity and a desire to continue growing as a driver and as a man that has really impressed me.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cEver since the tests, he has shown an ever-improving quality of driving that has always been one of his strengths.\u201d<\/p>\n
