{"id":635813,"date":"2026-04-28T08:00:06","date_gmt":"2026-04-28T08:00:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/635813\/"},"modified":"2026-04-28T08:00:06","modified_gmt":"2026-04-28T08:00:06","slug":"arc-releases-updated-policy-on-the-use-of-generative-artificial-intelligence-in-grant-assessment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/635813\/","title":{"rendered":"ARC releases updated policy on the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence in grant assessment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The ARC has released <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arc.gov.au\/publications\/policy-use-generative-artificial-intelligence-arcs-grants-programs-2026\" data-entity-type=\"node\" data-entity-uuid=\"7438d865-506c-4937-9349-7f339ddee7a3\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" title=\"Policy on Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence in the ARC&#039;s grants programs \u2013 2026\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">an updated Policy on Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence<\/a> in the ARC\u2019s grants programs, providing guidance on AI use by researchers, Administering Organisations and assessors engaged in the National Competitive Grants Program.<\/p>\n<p>The policy takes effect on 28 April 2026 and applies for both applications and assessments for Discovery Indigenous 2027 and other scheme rounds opening thereafter.<\/p>\n<p>Applicants may continue to use AI as a support tool when preparing applications but remain responsible for the authorship and intellectual content. Assessors may now use AI only to assist with grammar, spelling, formatting and readability of drafted assessments.<\/p>\n<p>Note that this approach is in alignment with the National Health and Medical Research Council\u2019s updated AI Policy which has been released in parallel with the ARC\u2019s in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arc.gov.au\/publications\/arc-nhmrc-joint-statement-generative-ai-use\" data-entity-type=\"node\" data-entity-uuid=\"1e340270-8f81-455a-8640-41f7985fda8f\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" title=\"ARC\u2013NHMRC Joint Statement on Generative AI use\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">an ARC\u2013NHMRC joint statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>All applicants and assessors should familiarise themselves with the updated policy, which replaces the previous 2023 policy.
