That&#8217;s the highest it&#8217;s been since September 2023, when the nation&#8217;s economy was rebounding after the COVID-19 pandemic. The annual rise in electricity costs is primarily related to Commonwealth and state government electricity rebates being used up by households. This is down from a 37.0 per cent rise in the 12 months to February 2026 due to the timing of rebate payments in 2025. Excluding the impact of the Commonwealth and state government electricity rebates over the previous year, electricity prices rose 3.9 per cent in the 12 months to March.
