Actress Charlize Theron has admitted that she doesn\u2019t think she can ever live with a romantic partner again \u2013 as she opened up to fellow A-lister Drew Barrymore about how her dating life has changed as she has gotten older and welcomed children.<\/p>\n
The \u201cApex\u201d star, 50, who is based in California, revealed during an appearance on \u201cThe Drew Barrymore Show\u201d that she has been dipping a toe back into the dating scene now that her children, Jackson, 14, and August, 11, whom she adopted in 2012 and 2015, respectively, are a bit older.<\/p>\n
However, while Theron \u2013 who was previously in a relationship with Stuart Townsend from 2001 until 2009 \u2013 was open about her search for love, she confessed that she\u2019s not ready to give up her independence, even if she finds someone who meets all of her needs.<\/p>\n
\u201cI really mean this \u2013 people think I joke \u2013 I don\u2019t think I could ever live with somebody again,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m not sure I can.\u201d That\u2019s not to say that Theron doesn\u2019t want her future partner to be close by, joking that she would have to ask them to buy a home just a few doors down from her own dwelling.<\/p>\n
\u201cI would love for [a partner] to be close,\u201d she continued. \u201cLike, buy the house down the street.\u201d<\/p>\n
Theron conceded that she may well change her mind about her dating rule when her daughters become older and move out, noting that she feels incredibly protective about the space that they currently share.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s really funny how I was scared they\u2019d be threatened by it, and now they\u2019re like, \u2018Mum, is he texting you? Like, go on the date, Mum,\u2019\u201d she said.<\/p>\n Theron also noted that her kids \u201calways come first.\u201d<\/p>\n The actor previously opened up about her decision to start a family while speaking to People in 2018, explaining that was always very open with her romantic partners about her desire to adopt.<\/p>\n \u201cEven when I was in relationships, I was always honest with my partners that adoption was how my family would look one day. This was definitely not a second option for me. It was always my first,\u201d Theron said at the time.<\/p>\n She also previously told Elle that she wanted her children \u201cto know who they are, and I want them to be so f***ing proud of who they are.\u201d<\/p>\n What Theron has yet to reveal is where her future partner will have to look for their new abode.<\/p>\n Theron also mentioned that she loves Australia and would love to live there one day. Photo: Getty Images<\/p>\n She recently revealed <\/a>that one day she \u201cwill live in Australia.\u201d<\/p>\n Speaking to 10 News, the Oscar-winner was very clear about her relocation plans after filming the Netflix survival thriller Apex.<\/p>\n \u201cMark my words, I will live in Australia one day. It truly is, for me, an incredible place,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n \u201cMy children came out to visit me and they fell in love with it. My oldest was like, \u2018Can we live here, Mum?\u2019 I was like, \u2018I know, right? It\u2019s incredible.\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cI love the people. I love how feisty they are and the tenacity, and I just think the place is absolutely gorgeous.<\/p>\n \u201cSo, yeah, I think this is my future. So whether you like it or not, I\u2019m coming.\u201d<\/p>\n She currently holds the keys to several properties in California, including a five-bedroom, 5.5-bath Studio City residence she purchased in 2024 for $4.62 million (US$3.29 million).<\/p>\n Standout details include marble finishes in the main bathroom, a balcony overlooking the pool, and wide-plank floors throughout both levels.<\/p>\n The neighbourhood has a quaint feel but is less than 20 minutes by car from downtown Los Angeles.<\/p>\n She also owns a three-bedroom, 2.5-bath, single-family home in Studio City that\u2019s just a quick drive from Universal Studios.<\/p>\n Built in 1941, the 2,000-square-foot charmer features new white-oak flooring, a detached flex space, and a Japanese soaking tub. There\u2019s also a Manzanilla olive tree and meticulous landscaping out back.<\/p>\n Designed and built by luxury home developer Rob Diaz, the interior is packed with chic details, such as alabaster sconces, marble countertops, and custom-built cabinetry.<\/p>\n Way back in 1998, Theron purchased a 5,005-square-foot mansion in the hilly Outpost Estates neighbourhood for $2.25 million (US$1.6 million).<\/p>\n She still owns the four-bedroom, five-bathroom house, and it likely serves as her home base when she\u2019s in Southern California.<\/p>\n The circa-1929 residence has a stucco facade, pretty tile roof, and two-car garage.<\/p>\n Theron had her breakout role in 1997, when she was cast in \u201cThe Devil\u2019s Advocate\u201d opposite Keanu Reeves and Al Pacino.
