D\ufeffave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes<\/a>, 55, revealed how an X-rated personal story he shared publicly made its way back to his teenage son and, in his words, “ruined [his] life”.<\/p>\n

Speaking on \ufeffthe Carrie & Tommy<\/a> show, the comedian and broadcaster recalled telling a vulnerable but “graphic” story about losing his virginity during an appearance on the podcast The Imperfects<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“I lost my virginity in a brothel at the \ufeffage of 22, but I was so scared before that, that I was going to be a loser in life, that whenever I got the opportunity to have sex I would bottle it because I thought ‘I’m not worthy’,” Hughes said on the podcast.<\/p>\n

“This guy said to me, ‘We’re going to a brothel’ and I said, ‘Mate, it’s impossible. I can’t get it done in a weekend with a girl, how am I going to get it done in half an hour?'”<\/p>\n

The \ufeffreflection prompted a question from host Tommy Little, who wondered if Hughes consulted with his family before revealing something so private on a public service.<\/p>\n

“When that clip comes out, are there chats in the household? I’m fascinated,” the radio host asked.<\/p>\n

Hughes said there is “no issue” for his wife of 20 years Holly Hughes\ufeff, who is “very honest and happy for [him] to be honest”.<\/p>\n

What did become an issue was when Hughes’ 17-year-old son Rafferty’s classmates forwarded him the clip.<\/p>\n

“He said to me, ‘Dad, you’ve ruined my life,”‘\ufeff the comedian laughed.<\/p>\n

“I remember picking him up from a cinema and he’s got five mates there who are just yelling, ’22, 22,’ mocking me.”<\/p>\n

Hughes has no regrets about sharing the personal story, joking\ufeff his “rizz has increased” with his son’s mates.<\/p>\n

“I’m actually happy about that, because men have many insecurities. I think for me to be able to talk about that hopefully takes the pressure off men who are nervous in life,” he said.<\/p>\n

“So, I’m happy they can see that I’m imperfect. Obviously, every can see that but I’m happy about it.”<\/p>\n

It’s not the first time the lines have blurred between Hughes’ personal and professional life.<\/p>\n

He previously admitted to an on-air faux pas that got him in trouble with his in-laws.<\/p>\n

“I got in trouble years ago, actually, when my wife’s grandmother passed and I was on radio,” he shared on Stellar’s podcast Something to Talk About<\/a><\/p>\n

“For some reason, I can’t remember the actual incident or what triggered it, but I think we’re talking about on radio and I might have got the giggles, which … was inappropriate.<\/p>\n

“I knew that, but it’s like laughing in church. Sometimes you’re not meant to laugh, and so that’s when you do laugh because you’re not meant to.”<\/p>\n

Hughes and Holly married in 2006 and share three children, Rafferty, 17, \ufeffSadie, 15, and Tess, 13.<\/p>\n
