Arthur Fils and Alexander Blockx are into the semi-finals at the Mutua Madrid Open.

All eyes this week have been on World No. 1 Jannik Sinner<\/a> and his growing lead atop the PIF ATP Rankings. But there is also plenty at stake for other players competing in the semi-finals at the Mutua Madrid Open<\/a>, with big opportunities for them to make their own move.<\/p>\n

Sinner’s semi-final opponent, Arthur Fils<\/a>, is perhaps the player with the most to gain at this stage, with both a potential Top 10 breakthrough and Nitto ATP Finals<\/a> qualification on the horizon. The 21-year-old has this season climbed to No. 17 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings after dropping to No. 42 as recently as February following an eight-month injury layoff in 2025. That time away could lead to a big chance in the coming months, with minimal points to defend later in the season.<\/p>\n

Since returning to the Tour in February, the Frenchman has been relentless. Fils finished runner-up in Doha, reached the quarter-finals at Indian Wells and the semi-finals in Miami, and then captured the ATP 500 title in Barcelona. Now into his second ATP Masters 1000 semi-final in Madrid, Fils is continuing to build momentum at the highest level.<\/p>\n

As a result, the Frenchman is fourth in the PIF ATP Live Race to Turin, the season-to-date standings. If Fils sustains this level, he will eventually be in good position to become the first Frenchman to break into the Top 10 since Lucas Pouille<\/a> in 2018.<\/p>\n

Fils is not the only young player making waves in Madrid. Alexander Blockx<\/a> has also emerged as one of the biggest movers this week. Blockx\u2019s rise has been swift and emphatic. Just two months ago, the 21-year-old was outside the Top 100 and had yet to clinch a tour-level win on clay.<\/p>\n

The 2025 Next Gen ATP Finals competitor changed that with a breakthrough run to the third round at the Masters 1000 event in Monte-Carlo, and has now built on that momentum in the Spanish capital with a run to the semi-finals. Currently at No. 35 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings, he has positioned himself for an even bigger leap as the clay swing continues. <\/p>\n

\"\u201cATP<\/a><\/p>\n

Blockx can still continue his ascent in Madrid, where he will face two-time champion Alexander Zverev<\/a> in the semi-finals. If the Belgian upsets Zverev, he could crack the Top 30. With a dream run to Masters 1000 glory, he could soar into the Top 25. <\/p>\n

While there may be limited rankings reward for Zverev this week, the German can still strengthen his position just behind Jannik Sinner<\/a> and Carlos Alcaraz<\/a>. Chasing a third Madrid crown this week, the 29-year-old has an opportunity to reinforce his hold on World No. 3 by clinching his first title of the season.<\/p>\n
