Tyla’s life “flipped on its head” following the success of Water.\n<\/p>\n
The 24-year-old pop star released Water, her chart-topping single, in 2024, and Tyla admits that her life has not been the same since.\n<\/p>\n
Tyla told E! News: “That was insane. My life literally flipped on its head.\n<\/p>\n
“It was a lot of adjusting, you know? Because where I’m from in South Africa is very different to everything over here, so that moment changed my whole life, honestly.”\n<\/p>\n
Tyla has learned to navigate the music industry by trusting her instincts.\n<\/p>\n
She said: “I just went with what feels good. And now I feel like I’m at a place where I’m really just having the most fun.”\n<\/p>\n
The singer feels blessed that her music has helped bring amapiano, a genre of music from South Africa, to a global audience.\n<\/p>\n
She said: “Coming from literally the bottom of Africa and my music playing all over the world, it’s like a dream for a lot of people. So, I’m just blessed.\n<\/p>\n
“The music that I make is a mixture of like a lot of different things, and I always felt like it was big, like it was pop. So the fact that it’s getting recognised that way is just amazing.”\n<\/p>\n
On the other hand, Tyla previously revealed that she felt “trapped” following the success of Water.\n<\/p>\n
She told The Sun newspaper at a Q and A in London: “For a while, especially last year, I felt so trapped.\n<\/p>\n
“Like, \u2018Oh my word, I blew up and I just have to have everything right and everything has to be perfect now because the world is looking.\u2019\n<\/p>\n
“It was kind of stressful for me.”\n<\/p>\n
Despite this, Tyla thinks having “a little bit of arrogance” has helped her to navigate the stresses of the music industry.\n<\/p>\n
She said: “I just always knew I had something in me.\n<\/p>\n
“I just always had that kind of peace knowing that this is the life I\u2019m gonna live.\n<\/p>\n
“I don\u2019t let anybody or anything limit me or put me in a box. I think I\u2019m just confident.\n<\/p>\n
“A lot of people say arrogant, but I think everyone needs a little bit of arrogance, especially to make it in this industry and to make people believe in your music.\n<\/p>\n
