(WSAV) \u2014 A Savannah native and former NFL player was posthumously inducted into the Beach Hall of Fame on April 25.<\/p>\n<p>Roy Simmons graduated from Beach in 1975 and played five years of professional football, including three with the <a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/nfl\/teams\/ny-giants\/\" data-i13n=\"sec:content-canvas;subsec:anchor_text;elm:context_link\" data-ylk=\"slk:New York Giants;sec:content-canvas;subsec:anchor_text;elm:context_link;itc:0\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;context_link&quot;,&quot;yModuleName&quot;:&quot;content-canvas&quot;,&quot;yLinkText&quot;:&quot;New York Giants&quot;,&quot;ySubModuleName&quot;:&quot;anchor_text&quot;,&quot;yHasCommerce&quot;:false}\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York Giants<\/a>, one in Washington and one with USFL\u2019s Jacksonville Bulls.<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<p>Simmons played his college ball at Georgia Tech before the Giants selected him in the eighth round of the 1979 NFL Draft.<\/p>\n<p>Simmons is known as one of the first NFL players to acknowledge publicly he was gay.
