As winter turns to summer, British athletes claimed title after title across badminton, weightlifting, and cycling to make April a special month.<\/p>\n
Here’s a round-up of the best bits.<\/p>\n
Glory at the European Badminton Championships<\/p>\n
England grabbed three medals at the European Badminton Championship in Huelva, Spain, while Scotland\u2019s three-time Olympian Kirsty Gilmour took home the gold.<\/p>\n
The 32-year-old defeated Danish top seed Line Kjaersfeldt in straight sets in the women’s singles final, having dispatched another Dane, second seed Line Christophersen, in a pulsating quarter-final.<\/p>\n
England\u2019s Ben Lane and Sean Vendy, who have represented Team GB at the last two Olympics, stood atop the men\u2019s double podium too after a commanding performance against French duo Christo Popov and Toma Junior Popov in the final.<\/p>\n
Alex Green and Zach Russ won bronze in the tournament while Callum Hemming and Estelle van Leeuwen claimed silver in the mixed doubles.<\/p>\n
Duo defend weightlifting titles<\/p>\n
Both Emily Campbell and Sarah Davies defended their European Weightlifting Championship titles in Batumi, Georgia.<\/p>\n
Two-time Olympic medallist Campbell lifted a European record 276kg across her snatch and clean & jerk to pip Norwegian Solfrid Koanda to gold by just one kilogram in the 86kg+ category.<\/p>\n
That was the Nottingham native\u2019s sixth successive European title in a run dating back to 2021 in events across Eastern Europe and the Caucasus.<\/p>\n
In the 63kg event, Sarah Davies lifted 219kg in total to snatch gold ahead of the Russian pair Alina Shchapanava and Dziyana Maiseyevich.<\/p>\n
London 2012 bronze medallist Madias Nzesso also grabbed a bronze in the women\u2019s 86kg- competition.<\/p>\n
Cycling medal rush in Hong Kong<\/p>\n
Matt Richardson led Great Britain\u2019s medal charge with two golds at the Track World Cup in Hong Kong.<\/p>\n
The 27-year-old soared to victory in the men\u2019s sprint and anchored the men\u2019s team sprint victory with Joe Truman and Harry Ledingham-Horn too.<\/p>\n
2024 Olympic hero Emma Finucane looked invincible on her way to the women\u2019s sprint title, and she added a bronze in the women\u2019s keirin and silver in the women\u2019s team sprint to her haul.<\/p>\n
Silvers in the women\u2019s team pursuit and women\u2019s madison, as well as bronzes in the men\u2019s omnium and men\u2019s madison, took GB\u2019s total medal haul to nine across the event.<\/p>\n
Hard-fought curling bronze <\/p>\n
The Scottish team battled to a bronze medal at the World Curling Championships in Ogden, Utah.<\/p>\n
Led by skip Ross Whyte, the Scots let a slender lead slip in the final two ends in their semi-final against Canada, ultimately losing out 9-7.<\/p>\n
But Whyte, Robin Brydone, Craig Waddell, and Euan Kyle regathered themselves in the bronze play-off against the USA, notching four stones in the ninth end to beat the hosts 6-11.<\/p>\n
History at the London Marathon<\/p>\n
Eilish McColgan crossed the line seventh at the London Marathon in 2:24:51 in only her second career marathon, despite developing a blister midway through the race.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Mahamed Mahamed finished tenth in the men\u2019s race in 2:06:14 to become the second fastest British man in the marathon, with Patrick Dever finishing four seconds behind him.<\/p>\n
