{"id":644621,"date":"2026-05-02T09:28:09","date_gmt":"2026-05-02T09:28:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/644621\/"},"modified":"2026-05-02T09:28:09","modified_gmt":"2026-05-02T09:28:09","slug":"richard-wastnage-joins-cornish-pirates-as-new-investor-to-board","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/644621\/","title":{"rendered":"Richard Wastnage joins Cornish Pirates as new investor to board"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Businessman Richard Wastnage has joined the board at Cornish Pirates after investing in the Champ club. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Wastnage was co-founder of pharmaceutical firm the Pharmaxo Group which he sold in 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He currently owns One Atlantek &#8211; a hospitality and property group that sponsors the club. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;I&#8217;m really looking forward to helping the Pirates to build on their strong and vibrant rugby culture, heritage and supporter engagement both on and off the field,&#8221; Wastnage said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Wastnage joins the consortium of local businessmen that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/rugby-union\/articles\/cjde00k3n4no\" class=\"ssrcss-18834jl-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">bought the Penzance-based club in January 2025.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">They took over from long-serving chairman and benefactor Sir Richard &#8216;Dicky&#8217; Evans, who had been involved with the club for almost three decades.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;From our first meeting, I knew that Richard would be a brilliant fit and a huge asset to Pirates,&#8221; added chief executive Sally Pettipher.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;He has a deep understanding of rugby, a love for Cornwall, and his insight into our current operations and development plans have been incredibly valuable already.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Businessman Richard Wastnage has joined the board at Cornish Pirates after investing in the Champ club.
