{"id":644969,"date":"2026-05-02T13:24:14","date_gmt":"2026-05-02T13:24:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/644969\/"},"modified":"2026-05-02T13:24:14","modified_gmt":"2026-05-02T13:24:14","slug":"russia-launches-new-soyuz-5-rocket-from-kazakhstan-cosmodrome-in-first-test-flight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/644969\/","title":{"rendered":"Russia launches new Soyuz-5 rocket from Kazakhstan cosmodrome in first test flight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n         Published on<br \/>\n            01\/05\/2026 &#8211; 20:13 GMT+2\n            <\/p>\n<p>A new Russian medium-class launch vehicle Soyuz-5, was launched overnight on Friday from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan as part of its first flight tests, Russia\u2019s state space corporation Roscosmos said.<\/p>\n<p>          <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-ad__placeholder__logo\" src=\"https:\/\/static.euronews.com\/website\/images\/logos\/logo-euronews-stacked-outlined-72x72-grey-9.svg\" width=\"72\" height=\"72\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><br \/>\n          ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>          <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-ad__placeholder__logo\" src=\"https:\/\/static.euronews.com\/website\/images\/logos\/logo-euronews-stacked-outlined-72x72-grey-9.svg\" width=\"72\" height=\"72\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><br \/>\n          ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>According to Roscosmos, the Soyuz-5 is equipped with what it described as the world\u2019s most powerful liquid-fuelled rocket engine.<\/p>\n<p>The launch marked the first test flight of the new-generation rocket.<\/p>\n<p>Roscosmos said the first and second stages operated normally and that a payload mock-up was placed on a planned suborbital trajectory before falling into the Pacific Ocean.<\/p>\n<p>The space agency said the new rocket is designed to reduce the cost of launching payloads, double payload capacity to up to 17 tonnes and use environmentally cleaner fuel components.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.euronews.com\/culture\/2025\/09\/10\/kazakhstan-reimagines-soviet-era-space-launch-sites-as-tourist-getaways\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Baikonur Cosmodrome<\/a> is one of the most iconic sites in space exploration history. <\/p>\n<p>In 1961, it became the launch site of the world&#8217;s first human spaceflight, with Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin lifting off from there in the Vostok 1. <\/p>\n<p>After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Russia continued to operate Baikonur under a lease agreement with Kazakhstan. <\/p>\n<p>In 2004, Kazakhstan and Russia launched the joint Baiterek project, aimed at modernising launch facilities at Baikonur and facilitating a transition to more environmentally friendly rocket systems.<\/p>\n<p>Kazakhstan and Russia continue close cooperation in the space sector.
