Texas Tech Red Raiders quarterback Brendan Sorsby faces the possibility of being stripped of his eligibility by the NCAA for reportedly betting on football games in 2022 while he was with the Indiana Hoosiers. If that happens, the NFL\u2019s Supplemental Draft could be relevant once more.<\/p>\n

While the supplemental draft once delivered starting-caliber players like Josh Gordon (2012) and Ahmad Brooks (2006), a player hasn\u2019t been picked since 2019. Given the number of quarterback-needy teams around the league, Sorsby could change that if he decides to go pro.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s dive into a few potential landing spots for Sorsby in the NFL\u2019s Supplemental Draft.<\/p>\n

Green Bay Packers<\/p>\n

However, the Green Bay Packers<\/a> would seemingly love to have a developmental quarterback behind Jordan Love who they could potentially help like they did Malik Willis. There would be no pressure for Sorsby to play in Green Bay, as he could sit behind both Love and Desmond Ridder. The Packers are projected to have compensatory picks in Rounds 3 and 4 in the 2027 NFL Draft, which could give general manager Brian Gutekunst the option of sacrificing a third-round pick forfeiture to take Sorsby in the Supplemental Draft. They would have four years of contractual control and could develop him for a year before making him Love\u2019s backup in 2027. After that, he\u2019d still only be 24 years old and the Packers could potentially flip him for premium draft capital in the 2028 NFL Draft.<\/p>\n

Dallas Cowboys<\/p>\n

The Dallas Cowboys<\/a> have already demonstrated they are willing to take gambles on young quarterbacks with enticing physical tools (Trey Lance and Joe Milton); Sorsby is a more enticing prospect than either of them when they were acquired. This would also be a return home for the 23-year-old quarterback, who starred at Lake Dallas High School in Denton, Texas. Sorsby would have the opportunity to learn from Dak Prescott for two-plus years before potentially taking over as the Cowboys starting quarterback in 2028. It might cost Jerry Jones sacrificing a Day 2 pick, but he\u2019s made more aggressive moves with draft capital before for worse players.<\/p>\n

Miami Dolphins<\/p>\n

While Brendan Sorsby has played in 34 career collegiate games, he really wasn\u2019t viewed as a prominent quarterback prospect for the NFL until this past year. Now that he\u2019s dealing with the gambling scandal, there\u2019s too much risk to thrust him into a starting role so quickly. However, the worst NFL teams are willing to take more chances. Fortunately, the Miami Dolphins<\/a> already have a starting quarterback they are financially committed to for 2026. Malik Willis\u2019 contract should ensure that he remains the Dolphins\u2019 starter, allowing the coaching staff to use this season as a development year for Sorsby. If he makes a strong impression and demonstrates that he is ready to be elevated into being the starter, Miami could potentially have a top-three pick to use on wide receiver Jeremiah Smith.<\/p>\n

New York Jets<\/p>\n

If Brendan Sorsby is going to cost a second-round pick in the NFL\u2019s supplemental draft, then the New York Jets<\/a> stand out as a potential option. They already have three first-round picks in the 2027 NFL Draft, so that Round 2 selection already stands out as a potential trade chip. Many will presume that Sorsby could challenge to be the Jets\u2019 starting quarterback pretty quickly, but the coaching staff is very committed to Geno Smith. A better plan would be to give Smith the first three months of the season before Sorsby gets a trial run as the starter in December. If he performs really well, New York can use its trio of firsts on building a core around him. If he struggles, just take Arch Manning or Dante Moore.<\/p>\n
