The New England Patriots<\/a> had one of the best defenses in the NFL in 2025. However, the Patriots<\/a> will need to prove that they\u2019re still among the best units in the league in a brand new season in 2026.<\/p>\n

According to Bleacher Report\u2019s Gary Davenport,<\/a> the Patriots approach next season with the sixth-best defense in the NFL.<\/p>\n

The Patriots have retained most of their top performers from last year after free agency took its course. New England<\/a>\u2019s secondary is strong. The Patriots signed First-Team All-Pro safety Kevin Byard<\/a> in free agency to replace Jaylinn Hawkins<\/a>, who New England lost to the Baltimore Ravens<\/a> in the open market.<\/p>\n

New England also signed Dre\u2019Mont Jones<\/a> to replace K\u2019Lavon Chaisson<\/a> on the edge in 2026 with similar production, or better, as the franchise hopes for.<\/p>\n

Christian Gonzalez<\/a> and Carlton Davis<\/a> form one of the best cornerback duos in the NFL. Milton Williams<\/a> and Christian Barmore<\/a> form a pairing in the interior that pressured opposing quarterbacks at an astounding rate in 2025.<\/p>\n

Robert Spillane<\/a> and Christian Elliss<\/a> provide activity in the Patriots\u2019 second line of defense, making New England\u2019s outlook for next season in line with what they achieved in their run to the Super Bowl last season.<\/p>\n
