One can\u2019t ignore the possibility that Michael Morales or Carlos Prates have impressed UFC officials enough to get that opportunity instead.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/mmajunkie.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/ufc\/2026\/05\/03\/sean-brady-ufc-champ-islam-makhachev-run-through-ian-machado-garry\/89919773007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">MMAJunkie<\/a>, Brady discussed the state of the UFC welterweight division with Makhachev as the champion. He noted that he doesn\u2019t see Garry standing a chance against Makhachev.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIslam coming up (from lightweight) really threw a wrench into everything,\u201d Brady said. \u201cThen obviously him winning threw an even bigger wrench. The division is kind weird. Who is Morales going to fight next? It\u2019s a crazy division but it\u2019s one of the best and hopefully everything keeps moving. There\u2019s a lot of big fights coming up that will keep us moving.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs far as who is going to win that fight \u2013 Islam is going to run through Ian. Simple as that. He\u2019s going to sub him, for sure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Makhachev captured the UFC Welterweight Championship back in Nov. 2025. He turned in a dominant performance against Jack Della Maddalena, earning the unanimous decision win.<\/p>\n<p>Garry has won two fights in a row, and his opposition has been noteworthy. \u201cThe Future\u201d defeated former UFC Welterweight Champion Belal Muhammad and dangerous top contender Prates, who is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bjpenn.com\/mma-news\/carlos-prates\/ufc-perth-results-carlos-prates-tkos-jack-della-maddalena-video\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">coming off a TKO win over Jack Della Maddalena<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While Brady isn\u2019t currently in the title conversation given his last defeat to Morales, he could get back in the mix soon. Brady is scheduled to clash with Joaquin Buckley on the UFC 328 card. A vintage performance would be ideal for Brady, but Buckley also knows what\u2019s at stake.<\/p>\n<p>Do you agree with Sean Brady?
