Sam Kerr<\/a> has cemented her legacy at Chelsea<\/a>, overtaking Fran Kirby to become the club’s all-time leading goal scorer in the Women’s Super League (WSL) with her 64th goal in the competition.<\/p>\n

The 32-year-old Australian secured the historic milestone on Sunday night during the Blues’ 3-1 away victory over Leicester.<\/p>\n

Kerr’s record-breaking strike did more than just rewrite the club’s history books, it also locks in at least a third-place finish on the ladder for Chelsea, guaranteeing them a Champions League<\/a> spot for next season.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on the milestone, Kerr expressed her pride in overcoming her injury setbacks to reach the top once again.<\/p>\n

“There have been some pretty special goals in my career, but I don’t know if it gets more special than this,” said Kerr.<\/p>\n

“I probably didn’t play as much as I would have liked at the start of the season but you’ve seen when I get rhythm and games under my belt I start scoring.<\/p>\n

“I’ve not scored as many in the league as I’d have liked, but to come back from an ACL and still be top scorer in the league for a club like Chelsea is great.”<\/p>\n

An anterior cruciate ligament rupture in January 2024<\/a> meant that the Aussie gun missed the entire 2024-25 WSL campaign.<\/p>\n

Fellow Australian and Chelsea teammate Ellie Carpenter was quick to praise Kerr’s resilience and her broader impact on the sport.<\/p>\n

Football’s new home, Stan Sport<\/a>, is the only place to watch the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, WSL, European World Cup qualifiers, J.League, NSWL and K League<\/p>\n

“I think that she is a world-class striker, and I’m happy to see her thriving after that long spell she had out with her knee, and I’m happy that she is back, scoring goals and what an achievement it is for an Australian as well,” said Carpenter.<\/p>\n

“I think she is such a legend for Australian football, and she sort of put Australian football on the map when she got introduced in the WSL.<\/p>\n

“She is a phenomenal world-class striker, and Chelsea have been lucky to have her at this club and be their all-time leading goal scorer.”<\/p>\n

Chelsea will next face Manchester City<\/a> in the Women’s FA Cup semi-final next Monday morning (AEST), before they host Manchester United on the WSL’s final day.<\/p>\n
