Emma Raducanu<\/a> complained to the umpire about a crying child and was applauded by sections of the crowd in her narrow third round loss to world No.1 Aryna Sabalenka<\/a> in Cincinnati.<\/p>\n

It was the pair’s second meeting of the year after Sabalenka edged the Brit in their third-round encounter at Wimbledon, but this one had more spice.<\/p>\n

With the match all square at one set apiece and with Raducanu serving at 3-4 in the third, tensions rose as the Brit was forced to fight off several break points.<\/p>\n

At one point as she stepped up to serve, the 2021 US Open champion stopped her motion when a child cried out. She turned to the umpire and said: “It’s been, like, 10 minutes.”<\/p>\n

The umpire replied: “It’s a child. Do you want me to kick the child out of the stadium?”<\/p>\n

When members of the crowd replied “yes”, the British No.1 shrugged and smiled.<\/p>\n

As Raducanu towelled herself, the umpire said: “I can call in, but we need to continue for the moment.”<\/p>\n

The tense clash continued and Raducanu ended up holding her serve to level the scores at 4-4 in the third.<\/p>\n

Both players held serve until it went to a tiebreak in the final set, with Sabalenka pulling through to win it 7-5.<\/p>\n

Sabalenka took the match 7-6(3), 4-6, 7-6(5).<\/p>\n

“Happy to get through this match,” Sabalenka said in her on-court interview. “I really hope I have a day tomorrow.”<\/p>\n

Raducanu opened the match by winning eight straight points. but a double fault on the ninth point swung things for Sabalenka, who took the first frame in around an hour.<\/p>\n

Another close contest followed in the second as both players held their serve in the early stages, before Raducanu managed to shift the momentum by winning a break point in the seventh game to take the lead and eventually the set, 6-4.<\/p>\n

Sabalenka has now won all three career meetings with Raducanu, who has lost 11 of 12 matches against top five players.<\/p>\n
