Australia has convened high-level crisis talks to address mounting delays in the Arafura-class offshore patrol vessel (OPV) program.<\/p>\n

The Project of Concern Summit, held in Canberra, brought together senior representatives from government and industry to address project challenges and support improved delivery outcomes.<\/p>\n

Since being listed as a Project of Concern in October 2023, Australia and Civmec Defence Industries have implemented a remediation plan and achieved key milestones, including the acceptance of OPV 1, HMAS\u00a0Arafura\u00a0and OPV 2, NUSHIP\u00a0Eyre, and the launch of OPV 3, NUSHIP\u00a0Pilbara.<\/p>\n

While these milestones mark important progress, sustained momentum is required to ensure the delivery of this naval capability, the officials highlighted.<\/p>\n

Defence and Civmec committed at the summit to addressing the remaining challenges facing this project.<\/p>\n

Since revitalizing defense\u2019s Projects and Products of Concern process in 2022, the Australian Government has strengthened the oversight and driven more rigorous remediation of the acquisition projects.<\/p>\n

This is the thirteenth Project of Concern Summit since May 2022.<\/p>\n
