C\u00e9drine Kerbaol won stage three of La Vuelta Femenina on Tuesday after a dominant attack in the final two kilometres.<\/p>\n
The EF Education-Oatly<\/a> rider was launched by teammate Alice Towers in the final few cobblestoned kilometres of the race. Kerbaol moved into third in the general classification as a result, with Franziska Koch (FDJ United-SUEZ<\/a>) holding onto the red leaders jersey.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cIt feels crazy because each day we\u2019re riding so well as a team and collectively I think we doing the best we\u2019ve ever done before,” a breathless Kerbaol said after her win.<\/p>\n Article continues below <\/p>\n You may like<\/p>\n “We already won with Noemi [R\u00fcegg, she took the red, it was f****** insane, and then she crashed. So we went from very up to very down, and I think now we\u2019re back to very up. We think a lot about her. It\u2019s a mix of a lot of emotions,” she continued, acknowledging the absence of their teammate and stage one winner, R\u00fcegg<\/a>, who broke her right shoulder in yesterday’s crash.<\/p>\n The race had, until the final 20 kilometres, been dominated by Lidl-Trek<\/a>\u2019s Felicity Wilson-Haffenden<\/a>. She pushed to an early lead alongside Sterre Vervloet (Lotto Intermarch\u00e9 Ladies), before soloing across the intermediate sprint. However, at 15 kilometres to go, the Australian rider was swallowed by the peloton as attacks began on the undulating second-half of the race.<\/p>\n Among those vying to become race leader was Kristen Faulkner<\/a> (EF Education-Oatley), who pulled to the head of the race after struggling behind the bunch. However, her lead did not last long. And despite also launching repeated attacks, Kasia Niewiadoma (Canyon-SRAM<\/a> zondacrypto) was unable to get a hold on the front.<\/p>\n Then, in the final cobbled coastal section of the race, Towers launched Kerbaol to her ultimate win.<\/p>\n \u201cThat was a perfect teamwork finale,\u201d Towers said after the race. \u201cThe whole day we were always in control. It wasn\u2019t really my plan to launch C\u00e9drine on the cobbles, but it was super hard and we were in the front, and wow, she did such a good effort in those last two kilometres.\u201d<\/p>\n An elated Towers took a breath before repeating Kerbaol\u2019s sentiments. \u201cI feel a bit emotional to be honest,\u201d she said. \u201cThis win is for Noeme.\u201d<\/p>\n La Vuelta Femenina, Stage 3: Padr\u00f3n > A Coru\u00f1a, 121.2km<\/p>\n 1.
