The Chargers<\/a> have undergone quite the transformation this offseason, but nowhere is the change more dramatic than at the center.<\/p>\n

ESPN’s Kris Rhim identified center as the most improved position after the roster rebuild<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Bradley Bozeman ranked 30th out of 31 qualifying NFL centers in pass block win rate last season (92.5%). After Bozeman’s\u00a0retirement, the Chargers\u00a0signed\u00a0former Commanders<\/a> center\u00a0Tyler Biadasz\u00a0(94.5%), who ranked 15th in pass block win rate in 2025. Then L.A. used a second-round pick on Florida’s\u00a0Jake Slaughter, with Harbaugh calling him the “top center in the draft.” In Year 1, Slaughter will likely be the team’s starting left guard, where the Chargers also need help after a weak performance in 2025.<\/p>\n

Bozeman’s struggles contributed significantly to quarterback Justin Herbert being sacked 54 times in 2025. Following the season’s end,\u00a0he\u00a0officially retired, leaving a gaping hole and a major opportunity for improvement.<\/p>\n

LA. didn’t wait long to address the vacancy, securing former Commanders center\u00a0Tyler Biadasz\u00a0on a three-year deal. Biadasz brings a floor-raising veteran presence that the Bolts haven’t had since Corey Linsley.<\/p>\n

While\u00a0Biadasz\u00a0solidified the center spot, the Chargers doubled down by using a second-round pick on Florida’s Jake Slaughter. Head coach Jim Harbaugh was vocal about the pick, calling\u00a0Slaughter\u00a0their\u00a0“top center in the draft.”<\/p>\n

In Year 1,\u00a0Slaughter\u00a0will compete for the starting\u00a0left guard\u00a0spot. This addressed another massive need following a season in which the team’s guard play was just as weak.
