Following their Tricolours loss, the Dragons enjoyed the bye and gun centre Valentine Holmes revealed Young has made wholesale changes to their day-to-day training.

“We’ve changed the way he wants to structure things around the way we train, the way we rock up and when we finish,” Holmes said to media on Wednesday.

“He’s not telling us what we’re doing at training, it’s just ‘you’re in by 7 o’clock, you leave by 5 o’clock, and when we’re here, we’re here to work’.

“That’s one thing that’s definitely changed, and I think it’s been good.”

Training is now a full eight hour working day for the Dragons, with one reporter asking skipper Clint Gutherson if his squad get a lunch break.

“Sometimes, it depends how we’re training,” he joked.

“No, they’re just trying new things and the way they want to do it. We’re here for a set time and I love it.

“The more time you’re training, the more time you get to hang out and build those relationships and work on our footy.

“And that’s what we get paid to do and that’s what we need to do.

Gutherson also made it clear the Dragons playing group had bought in to Young’s coaching after a “few weeks” under their new mentor.

“As I said, we’ve had a few weeks now under Dean and we know exactly the team and the players we need to be to be picked in his team week to week and that’s what we need to do,” he sad.

“That’s how we need to play. That’s how we need to train and that’s what we need to do to start winning.

“So we’re looking forward to going out there on Saturday and showing that but it’s about us turning up and making sure we do it right.”

AJ OFFICIALLY UNVEILED AS PNG SIGNING

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have confirmed that the NRL’s all-time leading tryscorer, Alex Johnston, will depart the club at the end of the 2027 season to join the PNG Chiefs.

Becoming the Chiefs’ official second signing – after Jarome Luai – Johnston will see out the remaining 18 months of his contract before joining the expansion club when they enter the competition in 2028.

“We have all enjoyed the efforts from ‘AJ’ over the past 13 seasons and I’m sure we will see more highlights before he heads to the Chiefs in 2028,” Rabbitohs CEO Blake Solly said in a statement.

“He is the greatest try scorer the game has ever seen and he will score more tries in the red and green before the end of next season.

“Alex has a wonderful opportunity to extend his NRL career and to set himself up for life-after-football with his new club.

“We look forward to continuing our work with him for the next 18 months, and we will wish him, his partner Taryn and his kids Sonny, Avery and Robby the very best of luck at the end of his time at our Club.”

EELS RECRUIT COWBOYS FORWARD

The Parramatta Eels have confirmed the arrival of Harrison Edwards from the North Queensland Cowboys after they navigated a significant injury toll this season.

Arriving at the club effective immediately, Edwards has agreed to join the Eels for the remainder of this season and for an extra season until the end of 2027.

This comes after the 25-year-old appeared in 37 matches in Cowboys colouts having joined from the Bulldogs.

“With three middle forwards out for the season, Harrison brings great versatility to our squad,” Eel GM of Football Mark O’Neill said.

“He is a tough competitor who also has the ability to slot in at dummy half when required. That flexibility allows him to fill a role for the team wherever needed, and we see him making a strong impact.“

Cowboys CEO Michael Luck added, “Harry has been a wonderful contributor to our club since he arrived in North Queensland.”

“He has been asked to play numerous different positions and always answered the call with enthusiasm.

“We wish Harry all the best in his return to New South Wales.”

TIGERS LAND BIG SIGNING BOOST

The Tigers have locked down one of the NRL’s most prodigious talents with fullback Jahream Bula committing his future with the joint venture club.

It hasn’t been the greatest last couple of days for the Tigers, but Bula’s re-signing is sure to quell any pain for the club’s passionate fanbase.

Bula has put pen to paper on a new deal which will keep him at the club until the end of the 2030 season.

The 24-year-old has been one of, if not, the club’s best players this season.

The confirmation of Bula’s extension comes a week after Tigers co-captain Jarome Luai announced he’d be leaving at the end of the 2027 season to join PNG.

There have been concerns over the past 12 months that Bula could head elsewhere. However, the Fijian international is loving what is building at the Tigers.

No question: Regrets for Dogs over Reed | 02:10

MORE NRL NEWS

‘GOT IT WRONG’: Bulldogs blasted for ‘clanger’ call as ‘kicked out’ star haunts them

‘NUTS’: Manly urged to lock up Foran after crazy turnaround before rivals circle
