{"id":653641,"date":"2026-05-06T16:17:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-06T16:17:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/653641\/"},"modified":"2026-05-06T16:17:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-06T16:17:08","slug":"nel-metcalfe-wales-full-back-signs-new-deal-with-gloucester-hartpury","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/653641\/","title":{"rendered":"Nel Metcalfe: Wales full-back signs new deal with Gloucester-Hartpury"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Wales back Nel Metcalfe has extended her contract with Gloucester-Hartpury beyond the end of this season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Metcalfe joined the Premiership Women&#8217;s Rugby side in 2024 having begun her career with Gwalia Lightning in the Celtic Challenge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The 21-year-old won her first international cap aged 18 during the inaugural WXV Tournament and has gone on to earn 16 caps for her country, although a knee injury has ruled her out of any participation in this year&#8217;s current Six Nations campaign.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Metcalfe can play at full-back and on the wing and has scored six tries in seven games at club level this campaign, including a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/rugby-union\/articles\/cvgpy4e49zjo\" class=\"ssrcss-18834jl-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">hat-trick against Loughborough Lightning<\/a> in February.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;I&#8217;ve really enjoyed my time here so far and feel like I&#8217;m growing a lot as a player in this environment,&#8221; Metcalfe said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Right now, I&#8217;m focusing fully on my rehab and doing everything I can to get back to full fitness. I&#8217;m looking forward to being back out there once I&#8217;ve completed that process and feeling ready to contribute again.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;The standards here are really high and that&#8217;s exactly what I need at this stage of my career.
