‘GOT SOME LEVERAGE’: TALKS ‘HEALTHY’ FOR NEW PIE DEAL

Collingwood premiership defender Billy Frampton is edging close to a new deal at the Magpies, according to Midweek Tackle panellist Jon Ralph.

The off-contract Frampton, 29, is on the hunt for a new deal amid a career-best season where he’s thrived with more responsibility in the absence of injured teammates.

CODE Sports journalist Ralph on Tuesday night reported on Fox Footy’s Midweek Tackle that Frampton was “looking for a two-year deal, maybe with a trigger for a third.”

“He’s got some leverage,” Ralph told Midweek Tackle, expanding on his Moneyball story.

Bont set to play through pain again | 02:30

“Would you give him two years given that Jeremy Howe is year-to-year, Reef McInnes has gone down with an ACL, Darcy Moore is more often than not hamstrung – are you given a bloke who’s been, let’s face it, a good role player two years, or maybe three?”

Fellow CODE Sports reporter Josh Barnes replied: “I would be. He’s not going to be on much coin. He’s held that defence together and this is the best season of his career so far.”

Tom Morris on Wednesday night reported on Channel 7 talks between the Pies and Frampton’s camp were “healthy”, but added there were still deal details to be finalised.

Frampton has played 82 games across three clubs in his AFL career, with stints at Port Adelaide and Adelaide respectively.

CHAMP TO LEAVE TIGERS … AND WA CLUBS ARE ‘AWARE’

Triple premiership Tiger Nathan Broad is in his final season with Richmond, reports AFL Media’s Cal Twomey, who added both WA clubs were aware of the player’s desire to return to his home state.

Broad, who played in the Tigers’ three premierships between 2017 and 2020, remains unsigned beyond this season and is eligible for unrestricted free agency.

Speaking on AFL Media on Wednesday, Twomey said Broad, 33, would head home to WA at season’s end, but whether he continues his playing career at a new club is unclear.

“Nathan Broad is into his final year at Richmond,” Twomey told Gettable. “The three-time premiership player is looking to move back to Western Australia. Fremantle and West Coast are aware of that.

Nathan Broad of the Tigers. Picture: Daniel Pockett/Getty ImagesSource: Getty Images

“Whether he joins as a player or not remains to be seen. He’s an unrestricted free agent, (so) he can walk there.

“This is shaping as a farewell season for him at Punt Road. I think those discussions have started there.”

Tigers coach Adem Yze on Thursday morning told SEN Breakfast that Broad “hasn’t told me personally” of any plans to leave Richmond, but added: “To be fair, I don’t know if that’s correct. But what I do know is he’s out of contract, he’s 33 and he’s from Perth and that will be at some stage part of his next journey.”

Broad recommitted to the Tigers two years ago after considering a move to North Melbourne.

Broad has been a Richmond recruiting revelation, playing 177 games since being plucked out of the WAFL as a mature-age recruit with Pick 67 in the 2015 draft.

RIVAL CLUBS SEE TIGER AS ‘ABSOLUTELY GETTABLE’

And Broad mightn’t be the only Tigers player in his last season at Richmond, with midfielder Jacob Hopper viewed as “absolutely gettable” for other clubs, reports Channel 7’s Tom Morris.

Originally taken with Pick 7 in the 2015 draft after the Giants matched an academy bid, Hopper played 114 games for the Giants before he and teammate Tim Taranto were sensationally traded to Richmond after the 2022 season.

But the Tigers have since missed finals in every season that Hopper has been at the club, with Adem Yze’s side only recording its first win of 2026 last weekend against West Coast.

Stewart thankful ahead of 200th game | 00:52

Speaking on Wednesday night, Morris said Hopper, 29, was a name to track later in the year.

“The view of rival clubs I’ve spoken to today is that Jacob Hopper is absolutely gettable at the end of the season,” Morris told Channel 7.

“Why? I’m not sure. Is it Richmond trying to push him out? Is it Hopper keen for new opportunities?

“Either way, I’d absolutely watch Jacob Hopper’s name closely at the end of the season in the trade period.”

Hopper this season is ranked among Richmond’s top four players for average disposals, contested possessions and clearances

BIG BOMBERS MOVES AFTER EARLY INVESTMENTS?

Rival teams believe there’s a chance three Essendon top-10 draftees could be at different clubs next season, reports The Age.

The Bombers since 2020 have attacked the draft hard, using 10 top-15 picks in six years.

Essendon took Nik Cox and Archie Perkins with Picks 8 and 9 respectively in the 2020 draft, while they used Pick 5 in 2022 to draft midfielder Elijah Tsatas.

For varying reasons, the aforementioned trio have struggled to reach their full potential at AFL level at the club.

Scott to take advantage of Lions saga | 01:47

The Age on Wednesday reported that rival teams “expect top-10 draftees Elijah Tsatas, Archie Perkins and potentially Nik Cox not to be at Essendon next year”.

Marc McGowan’s detailed report also suggested a Victorian club was “closely monitoring” Cox, to the point where recruiting staff last month were sent to the Gold Coast to watch him play for the Bombers’ VFL team.

The Bombers took Sullivan Robey, Jacob Farrow and Dyson Sharp with their three first-round picks last year.

A triple premiership Tiger is set to depart at season’s end, while there’s a watch on his teammate.…

[560
139163,638,2095,51242,64,63,689,55,639,3423,696,1135,1129,19120,7803,10133,3499,10989,11231,25165,2105,2485,47405,35808,3417,9014,10132,681,91125,316482,647,233523,2041,2067,677,316481,12922,6082,17286,701,316485,316483,6858,672,197660,48479,1124,85,103827,9022,1144,12113,316484,11236,1133,13154,2614,660,4899,698
post-654313","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-afl","tag-academy-bid","tag-afl","tag-america","tag-archie-perkins","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-australia-and-new-zealand","tag-australian-football-league","tag-australianfootballleague","tag-ben-waterworth","tag-brad-scott","tag-cal-twomey","tag-charlie-curnow","tag-christian-petracca","tag-clayton-oliver","tag-collingwood-magpies","tag-daniel-pockett","tag-darcy-moore","tag-essendon-bombers","tag-four-game-losing-streak","tag-getty-images-inc","tag-gold-coast","tag-head-home","tag-home-state","tag-jacob-farrow","tag-jacob-hopper","tag-jeremy-howe","tag-jon-ralph","tag-josh-barnes","tag-marc-mcgowan","tag-melbourne","tag-nik-cox","tag-north-america","tag-northern-america","tag-oceania","tag-pie-deal","tag-player-movement-news","tag-port-adelaide","tag-premiership-defender","tag-queensland","tag-recruiting-revelation","tag-reporter-josh-barnes","tag-richmond","tag-richmond-tigers","tag-rival-teams","tag-role-player","tag-south-australia","tag-sports","tag-three-time-premiership-player","tag-tim-taranto","tag-tom-morris","tag-tom-stewart","tag-top-picks-leave","tag-trade-news","tag-trade-period","tag-triple-premiership","tag-united-states-of-america","tag-victoria","tag-virginia","tag-western-bulldogs
["GET
