Actress Melissa Barrera has dissed the Scream 7 cast after she was fired from the film for her support of Palestine.<\/p>\n
A Variety<\/a> interviewer asked the actress if she thought it was \u201cscabby\u201d that previous cast members from the franchise returned for the latest film after her firing<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cOh, one hundred per cent. I think they all are,\u201d she said in the interview published Wednesday. \u201cAnd they have to live with that.\u201d<\/p>\n Barrera, 35, added, \u201cThe only way they were able to make that movie after what happened was to nostalgia-bait as much as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n Scream 7, which came out in February, welcomed back multiple franchise vets including Courteney Cox, Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Matthew Lillard and Scott Foley.<\/p>\n The film is the highest-grossing movie in the franchise, earning $US215 million globally \u2014 though Barrera doubts that statistic.<\/p>\n \u201cI think they lied about the numbers,\u201d Barrera, who most recently starred in the action series The Copenhagen Test<\/a>, told Variety. \u201cI don\u2019t think it made that much money.\u201d<\/p>\n Page Six has reached out to production company Spyglass Media and distributor Paramount Pictures for comment.<\/p>\n Stream Melissa Barerra on The Copenhagen Test now on BINGE<\/a>, available on Hubbl<\/a>.<\/p>\n Barrera was fired from Scream 7 in November 2023 after she posted certain sentiments about the Israel-Hamas war, which the studio characterised as antisemitic.<\/p>\n The following day, her Scream 5 and Scream 6 co-star Jenna Ortega dropped out of the film, which Ortega later said \u201chad nothing to do with pay or scheduling\u201d and \u201cwas all kind of falling apart.\u201d <\/p>\n But Barrera insinuated that Ortega\u2019s move wasn\u2019t a show of support, telling Variety, \u201cThat\u2019s not the reality of things \u2026\u201d<\/p>\n Barrera explained that while she \u201cgot some messages of support from people in the industry\u201d after her firing, there was \u201cno action\u201d taken.<\/p>\n \u201cI had faith. I was like, \u2018Someone is going to reach out to me and help me. It\u2019s just a matter of time,\u201d she said, while admitting she went through \u201cten torturous months of uncertainty, and no work, and suffering\u201d after she was axed from the film.<\/p>\n But Barrera said she still feels the love from Scream fans who come to see her star in Titanique on Broadway.<\/p>\n \u201cAt the stage door, I sign \u2018Scream\u2019 things every night,\u201d she shared. \u201cPeople who love me from those movies are coming to see the show, and they can\u2019t ever take that away from me.\u201d<\/p>\n Barrera previously told Collider that she feels she\u2019s \u201cgotten closure\u201d with her exit from the franchise.<\/p>\n \u201cI feel good.
