It sparked a furious reaction from Dolphins scrum half Tom Gilbert, who confronted Preston before the referee intervened.<\/p>\n
Ref Grant Atkins judged the tackle was \u201ccompletely unnecessary\u201d and had an \u201celevated risk of force\u201d.<\/p>\n
But Dogs coach Cameron Ciraldo disagreed, arguing there was nothing else his man could have done.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou can see it\u2019s only a minimal, he just passed it before he made contact. I think they got that call wrong,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know what you want him to do.<\/p>\n
\u201dKatoa\u2019s got the ball, he\u2019s going to tackle him and then he releases it a millisecond before he hits him. I don\u2019t know. I don\u2019t understand it.\u201d<\/p>\n
However at the break Cameron Smith pointed out such a tackle was never going to be overlooked, though he did show sympathy.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe game, it just doesn\u2019t cop it anymore… any late contact when they\u2019re unaware, it\u2019s automatically to the sin bin,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cA lot of people could say a little bit harsh but that\u2019s where the game is now.\u201d<\/p>\n
Yet several fans disagreed with the call as they believe Preston had to make the tackle.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo offence there. What if the halfback dummied? You have to hit him. The game is soft,\u201d said one.<\/p>\n
Another added: \u201cIt was just a late tackle.\u201d<\/p>\n
A third simply commented: \u201cSoft.\u201d<\/p>\n
Unfortunately for the Bulldogs the incident proved costly as Dolphins ran in two tries while Preston was off the pitch.<\/p>\n
The result leaves the Dogs 13th on the ladder and without a win in four games.<\/p>\n
