The San Francisco 49ers<\/a> will open the 2026 NFL season overseas, playing an international game in Australia against NFC West rival the Los Angeles Rams<\/a>. While this game is still months away, news emerged regarding who will be transmitting this contest.<\/p>\n On May 7, The Athletic\u2019s Dan Shanoff and Andrew Marchand reported<\/a>, citing sources, that Netflix will air the NFL\u2019s first-ever regular-season game from Australia between the Rams and Niners. <\/p>\n \u201cThe streaming platform will air the Week 1 game between the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams on Thursday, Sept. 10, with kickoff at 8:35 p.m. ET from Melbourne Cricket Ground, the largest stadium in Australia,\u201d the report said. \u201cNBC is expected to handle production of the game.<\/p>\n \u201cThe early-season deal bookends Netflix\u2019s current broadcast relationship with the NFL<\/a>, which has included two games on Christmas Day the past two seasons and will continue in December 2026. Fox will air a third Christmas game in prime time.\u201d<\/p>\n San Francisco will have a busy 2026 season from an international perspective, as they will open the season in Australia and play a game in Mexico City<\/a>. It hasn\u2019t yet been revealed when the game in Mexico City will take place or who they\u2019ll face, but that will be announced once the NFL releases the schedule.<\/p>\n Unlike Australia, the 49ers have been a mainstay in Mexico City, having featured in two of the six games the NFL has held there. As a result, 2026 will mark the third time that the Niners play in Mexico\u2019s capital.<\/p>\n Jared Verse Sends Strong Message to Niners Players<\/p>\n As for the Australia game, there will not just be a win riding on the line when the Niners and Rams meet. There will also be bragging rights between former teammates.<\/p>\n On the April 10 edition of \u201cThe Jim Rome Show,\u201d<\/a>\u00a0Rams\u2019 Jared Verse shared the trash talk that will go on between himself and 49ers\u2019 Tatum Bethune<\/a> and\u00a0Renardo Green<\/a>, who were his teammates during their time with the\u00a0Florida State Seminoles<\/a>. <\/p>\n \u201cTwo of my teammates from Florida State, Tatum Bethune and Renardo Green, both play defense for them, \u201c\u00a0Verse said. \u201cThose two went to Florida State with me when we were on the 13-0 team, all that undefeated stuff. We take things really seriously. So whenever we play them, it\u2019s like the biggest beef. We don\u2019t say hi to each other\u00a0pregame. We\u2019re talking trash to each other.<\/p>\n \u201cThere are no dap-ups. There are no high-fives. There\u2019s nothing like that. They walk by me, I walk by them. So now we\u2019ve got to go all the way to Australia to do this. It\u2019s going to be even higher level because now, when we beat them, I can say I\u2019m beating your ass outside the country, too. I don\u2019t even have to just be in LA and San Francisco. I can beat you anywhere we go.\u201d<\/p>\n Rams, 49ers Will Look to Start Off With Week 1 Win<\/p>\n Moreover, both teams know how important this game will be as they want to be in the driver\u2019s seat early on to win the NFC West.
