Alex Rougas and C\u00e9drik S\u00e9guin of HFTV<\/a>, a wildly popular social media channel for fans of the Montreal Canadiens, rolled into town.<\/p>\nThey had fun outside the arena before the game, and planned to interview fans post-game, just as they did in Montreal and Tampa during the first round.<\/p>\n
But that\u2019s when S\u00e9guin says he was assaulted.<\/p>\n
\u201cA fan assaulted me from behind during our post-game coverage and spat at our cameraman,\u201d S\u00e9guin said following the game.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve been going to NHL rinks in our team\u2019s colours for over five years now, celebrating the love of the game and capturing the spirit of both fanbases \u2014 win or lose. We\u2019ve visited more than 10 arenas across North America, and in all that time, we have never experienced what happened last night.\u201d<\/p>\n
S\u00e9guin said that while the incident was captured on video, he chose not to press charges.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe shouldn\u2019t be resorting to violence over hockey, and we don\u2019t want the same thing happening for Game 2 when we\u2019re just trying to do our job,\u201d Rougas told Daily Hive. \u201cBoth Sabres and Habs fans are welcome to come, we always do that, and it won\u2019t change because of what happened.\u201d<\/p>\n
S\u00e9guin was clear in his statement that he is not looking to fuel anger or division, and that the response from Sabres fans was \u201coverwhelmingly good.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cMany of your fans stepped in immediately to pull him off me, and I am genuinely grateful for that. It speaks to the character of your fanbase far more than the actions of one individual ever could,\u201d S\u00e9guin said.<\/p>\n
