A year after dishing out bags of cash to try to improve their defensive line, the Minnesota Vikings went ahead and completely revamped the unit this offseason<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Out are veterans Jonathan Allen and Javon Hargrave, and in are top-100 draft picks Caleb Banks and Domonique Orange.<\/p>\n

As Minnesota’s first-round pick, Banks has received the majority of the attention since the conclusion of this year’s NFL Draft. But Orange has plenty of talent<\/a> as well, and as Sports Illustrated’s Daniel Flick recently explained<\/a>, the second defensive lineman the Vikings selected in the 2026 draft could end up emerging as the team’s best rookie next season.<\/p>\n

“The Vikings had an interesting draft, swinging big on defensive tackle Caleb Banks in the first round and double-dipping on the interior with Orange.<\/p>\n

Both could start Week 1, and while Banks has game-wrecking potential, Orange is a safe bet to execute his role at a high level\u2014the 6′ 2″, 322-pounder clogs lanes as well as any defensive tackle in the class.”<\/p>\n

Domonique Orange predicted to be the best rookie for the Minnesota Vikings in 2026<\/p>\n

Orange’s arrival gives Brian Flores a tool he hasn’t had since taking over as Minnesota’s defensive coordinator in 2023. Flores has had talent in the trenches while running the Vikings’ defense, but he’s never really had a space-eater like Orange.<\/p>\n

The Minnesota rookie plays a position at nose tackle that seems to be becoming something that more teams are shying away from.<\/p>\n

Many modern defenses just want their interior linemen to get to the quarterback, while Orange is more in the form of guys like Jerry Ball<\/a>, Gilbert Brown, Pat Williams<\/a>, and Linval Joseph.<\/p>\n

This isn’t to say he’s not capable of chasing down an opposing signal-caller, but his role with the Vikings, at least in 2026, will likely have him focusing on stopping the run and opening lanes for his blitzing teammates to fly through.<\/p>\n

If Orange can excel in those two areas, there’s a good chance that Flick’s prediction about him being Minnesota’s top rookie next season will become a reality.<\/p>\n
