Chrissy Teigen<\/a> is loved for her sense of humour, but it seems her latest social media stunt has left fans confused.<\/p>\n

The TV personality and cookbook author, 40, posted an Instagram video<\/a> explaining why she couldn\u2019t attend the 2026 Met Gala<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Instead, she was attending the \u201cfuneral\u201d of a \u201cdear friend\u201d who had died. But not all was what it seemed.<\/p>\n

“I don’t really like to post sad stuff but wanted to share I couldn’t go to the met ball because one of my best friends from Seattle passed away,” she captioned the video.<\/p>\n

That \u2018friend\u2019 was the closing down of a Taco Bell restaurant in Seattle.<\/p>\n

But with no other context in the post, until you were a third of the way into the video, some fans jumped to more \ufeffsombre conclusions.<\/p>\n

In the video, \ufeffTeigen is dressed in black funeral attire on her way to attend the ‘ceremony’ as the text in the video read: “We recently attended a funeral for a dear friend”.<\/p>\n

Teigen, who shares four kids with singer-songwriter John Legend<\/a>, was seen mourning in the video as she held a candle and red rose to commemorate the loss of the building.<\/p>\n

She then pretended to cry \ufeffas Welcome to the Black Parade by My Chemical Romance played over the clip.<\/p>\n

While husband Legend reacted with a laughing crying emoji under the video, some fans missed the funny side.<\/p>\n

“I thought you died when I saw her sad face. Goddammit,” one fan reacted under Legend’s comment.<\/p>\n

It seems Legend wasn’t the only one, as Teigen’s famous friend and hairstylist Jen Atkin wrote: “Do you know how many people THINK I DIED???? Do better.”<\/p>\n

Whether Atkins was serious or not, the comment \ufeffamassed over 2,500 likes.<\/p>\n

Just as one fan was sharing their condolences to the star, relating to their own recent loss they added: “Omg yikes I thought this was a real funeral.”<\/p>\n

“Hands up who doesn’t find this in any way funny?” said another.<\/p>\n

But many of \ufeffTeigen’s followers could see the funny side, with one account commenting: “THIS IS SOOOO DRAMATIC I LOVE \ud83e\udd23”.<\/p>\n

“\ud83e\udd23\ud83e\udd23\ud83e\udd23 Most of you missed the point that she would rather be at an unhinged Taco Bell funeral than the Met Gala!\ud83e\udd2d This is my type of carrying on @chrissyteigen \ud83e\udef6\ud83c\udffe,” defended another.<\/p>\n

Others labelled the star “a legend” \ufeffas a third added: “Chrissyyyy!!! You are the most unserious person to ever grace our timeline \ud83d\ude39 also sending my condolences \ud83d\udd4a\ufe0f\ufeff.”<\/p>\n

Teigen, who is also a podcast host and three-time cookbook author, has attended the Met Gala in the past.<\/p>\n

Her last appearance was in 2017. She also attended in previous years with husband John Legend.<\/p>\n
