The White House has branded Star Wars<\/a> actor Mark Hamill<\/a> \u201ca sick individual\u201d after an AI-generated image showing Donald Trump<\/a> in a shallow grave, with the words \u201cIf Only\u201d as an overlay was posted to one of star\u2019s social media accounts.<\/p>\n

Hamill, who played the lead character of Luke Skywalker in six movies of the iconic science fiction franchise and is a longtime<\/a> critic<\/a> of the US president, apologized and removed the post from his Bluesky account on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The American actor replaced it with another message<\/a> clarifying that he was not advocating the president\u2019s demise.<\/p>\n

\u201cActually, I was wishing him the opposite of dead, but apologize if you found the image inappropriate,\u201d Hamill wrote, adding that Trump \u201cshould live long enough to be held accountable for his crimes\u201d.<\/p>\n

The White House, through its Rapid Response 47 account on X, immediately seized on Hamill\u2019s original post, which portrayed the president lying beneath a gravestone inscribed with \u201cDonald J Trump, 1946-2024\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cMark Hamill is one sick individual,\u201d the post<\/a> said. \u201cThese Radical Left lunatics \u200cjust \u2060can\u2019t help themselves. This kind of rhetoric is exactly what has inspired three assassination attempts in two years against our President.\u201d<\/p>\n

Violence<\/a> has become prevalent across the political spectrum<\/a> in recent months and years. Last month a gunman<\/a> stormed the White House Correspondents\u2019 Association dinner in Washington DC in an apparent attempt to reach Trump.<\/p>\n

In September last year, Charlie Kirk<\/a>, the conservative activist, was shot and killed during an appearance at a Utah university campus.<\/p>\n

There was also a hammer attack<\/a> on the husband of the Democratic former House speaker Nancy Pelosi in 2022; and the killing<\/a> of Democratic state lawmaker Melissa Hortman and her husband in Minnesota last year.<\/p>\n

Trump himself has often led calls for physical aggression, with the Atlantic in 2024 documenting 40 occasions<\/a> in which the president had incited or praised violence against US citizens, including one episode when he spoke of training guns on the face of Liz Cheney, a Republican former congresswoman and political enemy.<\/p>\n

Hamill, meanwhile, continued to raise Trump\u2019s hackles on Monday when he appeared with Barack Obama, another perceived foe, in a short video<\/a> on YouTube promoting the new Obama Presidential Center<\/a> in Chicago.<\/p>\n
