\n\tCher<\/a> is not known for mincing words. And to hear her frequent musical collaborator songwriter Diane Warren<\/a> tell it, the legendary singer doesn\u2019t hold back at all, even when it comes to her most trusted chart consigliere. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c\u2018You\u2019re annoying but U write great songs,’\u201d Warren wrote in an Instagram post<\/a> early Friday morning (May 8) about what sounds like a sweet\/spicy compliment Cher paid to her. The post included a seemingly recent smiling pic of the dynamic duo hanging out, along with Warren\u2019s reaction to the star\u2019s backhanded praise: \u201chaha thnx Cher<\/a>\ud83d\ude1b\ud83c\udfb6\ud83c\udfb5\u270d\ufe0f\u2665\ufe0f.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tAt press time it was unknown if, as fans speculated in the comments, the chummy pic was a hint of yet another team-up to come and a spokesperson for Cher had not returned Billboard\u2018s request for comment on the post and whether it\u2019s a tease of a potential future project.<\/p>\n

\n\tDespite her reported irritating qualities, Warren, who earlier this year fully embraced being the \u201cbiggest loser<\/a>\u201d in Oscar history after her 17th nomination for best original song at the Academy Awards resulted in a 17th loss, has been a bit of a lucky charm for Cher over the years.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe singer\u2019s Warren-penned and co-produced massive 1989 hit \u201cIf I Could Turn Back Time\u201d ran up to No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, and they\u2019ve teamed up for more than a dozen other classics, including the Golden Globe-winning Burlesque soundtrack hit \u201cYou Haven\u2019t Seen the Last of Me,\u201d the country-leaning 1989 song \u201cJust Like Jesse James,\u201d as well as 1991\u2019s \u201cSave Up All Your Tears,\u201d 1987\u2019s \u201cPerfection,\u201d \u201cDoes Anybody Really Fall in Love Anymore?,\u201d \u201cLove and Understanding\u201d and several others.<\/p>\n

\n\tCher has not released an album of original material since 2013\u2019s dance-heavy Closer to the Truth, which featured production from Paul Oakenfold, Timbaland and Billy Mann, among others. Her most recent project was her 2023 Christmas album<\/a>, which debuted atop the Top Holiday Albums chart in 2023.<\/p>\n

\n\tWarren was recently included in The New York Times\u2018 list of the 30 greatest living American songwriters, earning praise for the songs she\u2019s written (or co-written) for everyone from Taylor Swift to Chicago, Patti LaBelle, Aerosmith, Toni Braxton, and, of course, Cher. \u201cI\u2019m usually not into these lists, but this one is a pretty f\u2013king cool one to be on!
