England’s Tyrrell Hatton<\/a> says his record in the major championships has been “horrific”.<\/p>\n

The European Ryder Cup star is one 11 LIV Golf<\/a> players who will be making the trip to Aronimink Golf Club in Pennsylvania next week for the PGA Championship.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Unsurprisingly, the 34-year-old is among the pre-tournament betting favourites to hoist the Wanamaker Trophy, fresh off a top five finish at the 2026 Masters<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Hatton has come agonisingly close in the majors in recent years, most notably at last year’s U.S. Open at Oakmont, where he finished tied for fourth after his title hopes unravelled with bogeys on the 17th and 18th in the final round.<\/p>\n

But overall, he believes his major record has been poor. “I think my major record has been horrific, to be honest, with the amount of majors I played,” he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“More recently, it’s been nice to actually play well in some majors, but it’s not anything that I’ve changed in my game or changed my thought process and how I\u2019d go into those weeks.<\/p>\n

“I still go out there and try my best like any other week.<\/p>\n

“It’s good to play well, and hopefully I can finish well here this week and take momentum into next week.”<\/p>\n

Hatton has teed up in 43 majors since turning professional. He has only missed the cut on 14 occasions.\u00a0<\/p>\n

His comments come amid a turbulent period for the LIV Golf League.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Saudi Arabia have announced they will no longer bankroll the venture at the conclusion of the 2026 season in August.\u00a0<\/p>\n

There has been speculation that several LIV Golf players have already put out feelers to the PGA Tour to see if they would be welcomes back into the fold.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Bryson DeChambeau’s teammate, Anirban Lahiri, claimed that talk was the “biggest joke ever”, with the Indian insisting that he knows at least a dozen LIV Golf players that would rather retire<\/a> than go back to the PGA Tour.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Hatton, meanwhile, claims he has been unaffected by the lack of uncertainty surrounding LIV Golf’s future.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“For me personally, what I do doesn\u2019t affect anything off the golf course,” Hatton said. “Like my job is to play golf, and that’s all I can do.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“So I try to prepare and get ready for this tournament like I would any other time that I have a few weeks off.<\/p>\n

“Actually, I deleted X off my phone two and a half years ago, and I deleted Instagram almost two years ago off my phone. I’ve replaced that with looking at Daily Mail and Sky Sports News and other things.”<\/p>\n

Australia’s Cameron Smith has insisted<\/a> that he still has “fire in the belly” despite reports suggesting the former Open champion could be among those that decide to walk away from the game early should LIV Golf collapse.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Smith has performed appallingly in the major champions in recent years.\u00a0<\/p>\n

His early exit from the 2026 Masters represented his eighth missed cut in a row in a major.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But he told reporters before LIV’s stop in Virginia: “I can promise you, the fire is in the belly, it’s just a matter of time.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“I don’t think time is running out on my major career by any means.”<\/p>\n

Smith was also optimistic that LIV have a future beyond 2026.<\/p>\n

“I know the team are working hard behind the scenes and they’re doing everything they can for us,” he said.<\/p>\n

“So I am excited, I know Scott O’Neil is really excited for the progress and challenge in the coming months.”<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, former world number one Dustin Johnson<\/a> has claimed he still believes that he is among the best players in the world<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The 41-year-old American has received a special invitation by the PGA of America to tee it up next week, meaning that he has not missed a major championship for 18 years.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d love to get a PGA Championship,” he said. “But I feel like the game\u2019s finally in good enough form where I can compete and contend. That\u2019s the goal going into next week.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added: “I went through a little slump there for about a year where I wasn’t driving it great, but the game’s starting to come around.<\/p>\n

\u201cI’ve been playing better the last six months or so. Driving is the biggest part of my game and it’s coming back.”<\/p>\n
