A classic rock singer was forced to make a \u201cheartbreaking\u201d regarding the future of his band.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know what I want to do next,\u201d former REO Speedwagon frontman Kevin Cronin<\/a> told Ultimate Classic Rock<\/a> in a new interview.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m really kind of a goal-oriented person, so the hard part is for the past 50 years, at the end of each tour, I\u2019m used to already know what the next tour\u2019s going to be, or the next album or whatever,\u201d Cronin, who is currently on the road with the Kevin Cronin Band, told the outlet. \u201cAt the end of this tour it\u2019ll be the first time that I\u2019m not in that situation, that I don\u2019t have a real, concrete goal that I\u2019m working towards.\u201d<\/p>\n Cronin has been touring with the Kevin Cronin Band since REO Speedwagon officially broke up last year due to \u201cirreconcilable differences\u201d between Cronin and bassist Bruce Hall, Blabbermouth reported<\/a> at the time. <\/p>\n Later in 2024, Cronin announced that he would be touring as the Kevin Cronin Band. The singer was joined by fellow REO Speedwagon alumni Dave Amato and Bryan Hitt. The band has shows<\/a> scheduled throughout the rest of August. But after the tour wraps Aug. 24 in Milwaukee, Cronin said he realistically can\u2019t keep the group together.<\/p>\n \u201cThat is probably one of the most difficult parts about this whole thing,\u201d the singer told UCR. \u201cMy plan was always to keep the organization together…but there are challenges around that are just overwhelming and I couldn\u2019t promise the crew that I could afford to keep them.\u201d<\/p>\n Cronin continued, \u201cAt this point (the crew) had no choice but to make themselves available, and they have my total love and my total support. They\u2019re so great. They\u2019re my family. They\u2019re my brothers and sisters. Most of our crew has been with us 15, 20 years. Some of them already have great offers. It\u2019s heartbreaking for me, but at the same time I love them and I want what\u2019s best for them. I\u2019ve told them all, \u2018If you need a reference, you\u2019ve got my number.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Cronin said he may still be able to book a few shows with his backing band, but it\u2019s harder without the REO Speedwagon brand name and logo.<\/p>\n REO Speedwagon, fronted by Cronin since 1972, is best known for \u201870s and \u201880s rock hits like \u201cCan\u2019t Fight This Feeling,\u201d \u201cTake It On the Run,\u201d and \u201cKeep on Loving You.\u201d <\/p>\n Cronin, 73, told UCR that he may continue performing solo but will also focus on finishing his memoir, which will now tentatively be titled \u201cRoll With the Change: My Life Within and Without REO Speedwagon.\u201d<\/p>\n If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
