During the Sonsio Grand Prix at the road course-configured Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Rossi\u2019s car ground to a halt on Lap 21 with a hybrid-related issue.<\/p>\n

The Ed Carpenter Racing driver was left sitting on the track for the best part of minute with the scene covered by a local yellow.<\/p>\n

IndyCar commentators were left bemused, thinking that the full course caution had come out.<\/p>\n

The broadcast seemed to reflect that as it displayed the full course caution graphic.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, it\u2019s not a full caution, it\u2019s just a local yellow,\u201d said Will Buxton, having noticed drivers were still jockeying for position.<\/p>\n

James Hinchcliffe theorised that IndyCar elected not to throw the caution to allow cars to complete their mandatory pit stops.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is IndyCar trying to leave the pits open long enough for everyone to get through on a pit cycle,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve got to say, you\u2019ve got a driver exiting the race car at the fastest point \u2013 cannot disagree with this enough. This is dangerous.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe wants to get out of the race car. He\u2019s on a hot race track.\u201d<\/p>\n

Townsend Bell labelled the incident \u201cshocking\u201d and sympathised with Rossi\u2019s fury.<\/p>\n

Rossi offered a terse assessment, firstly taking aim at the IndyCar hybrid system and then its officials for leaving him in harm\u2019s way.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, it\u2019s pretty annoying to have failures on the car because of a product we didn\u2019t ask for that doesn\u2019t improve the racing. So that\u2019s frustrating,\u201d said Rossi.<\/p>\n

\u201cSecond of all, the fact that it took that long to throw a full course yellow when the cars on the front straight were going by at 170 miles an hour also seems insane when they don\u2019t let us drive in the wet yesterday. So, I don\u2019t really know where the priorities lie. So, I\u2019m pretty frustrated.\u201d<\/p>\n

McLaren\u2019s Christian Lungdaard won the 85-lap race ahead of Team Penske\u2019s David Malukas.<\/p>\n
