(ABC News: Declan Bowring)<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;May not be feasible&#8217; for sculpture to remain<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The City of Sydney has fenced off Golden Water Mouth with signage indicating there were structural problems with the timber.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Despite regular maintenance the natural timber is cracking and degrading, as is expected, with evidence of some termite activity,&#8221; a spokesperson for City of Sydney said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Given the nature of the damage to the artwork it may not be feasible for the artwork to remain.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The spokesperson said they were looking at partially retaining the sculpture.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"a tree covered in hessian bags with a golden plate visible\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/97785d11bd2888e68ae8bceb406f0ab8.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">City of Sydney staff are looking at partial retention of the sculpture.
