a glittering national pageant celebrating culture, identity and achievement.

For Ms Mukherjee, the crown is about far more than lights, cameras and applause.

She sees it as the focal point of a platform that she is ready and willing to use.

The Ipswich local says she is determined to turn her win into a force for good, using her voice to advocate, mentor and give back to the community that has shaped her journey.

The competition, organised by Opera Events Australia and Hindi Gaurav, brought together Indian-origin women from across the country, celebrating not just beauty and talent, but purpose, resilience and cultural pride.

This year’s event featured 21 finalists competing across the Miss/Ms and Mrs categories, judged on everything from talent and ethnic wear to sportswear, evening gowns and a high-pressure live Q&A.

But it was Ms Mukherjee who stole the spotlight.

A registered nurse working in the digital healthcare sector, she impressed judges not only with her presence but with her purpose.

Winning the crown, she says, gives her a bigger voice.

“To be crowned this title means that I can expand my platform as a healthcare worker,” she said.

“Advocate for increased healthcare access, advocate for healthcare workers and continue to work alongside the next generation of nurses to keep them motivated in the field.”

Her passion is deeply personal.

Ms Mukherjee moved from India to Australia at just 18, navigating both opportunity and challenge along the way.

Now, years later, she’s standing on a national stage proudly representing her heritage while calling Ipswich home.

“It allows me to honour my cultural roots while giving back to the community I now call home,” she said.

Her rise comes as Ipswich itself continues to grow and transform.

Once seen as a fringe regional hub, the city is now one of Queensland’s fastest growing and most diverse communities.

Census data shows the Springfield region has seen strong growth in residents with Indian ancestry, a shift increasingly reflected in local life from businesses and schools to community groups and now, the national spotlight.

Ms Mukherjee’s win is not just her moment – it belongs to Ipswich too.

Despite the glamour, she’s keeping her feet firmly on the ground.

With a master’s degree underway, her focus is now on finishing her studies and building her career.

“No more pageants planned for me right now – I am also studying my master’s degree and want to now focus on graduating successfully,” she said.

IPSWICH’s multicultural story has a dazzling new queen with local resident Greta Mukherjee crowned Miss India Australia
