A teenager has fallen to his death from a hotel balcony while attempting to flee from police in Queensland<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Police said they were called to Spring Hill in Brisbane\u2019s<\/a> CBD about 5.50pm on Saturday after receiving information that a group of people wanted by police for a range of property offences were at a hotel on Wickham Tce.<\/p>\n

One of the group members, an 18-year-old man from Annerley, fled police when they arrived, attempting to climb from the sixth-floor balcony to a lower level, but fell.<\/p>\n

The man suffered critical injuries in the fall and was declared dead at the scene.<\/p>\n

Superintendent Simon Taylor said officers performed CPR on the teenager until paramedics arrived, but the man was unable to be saved.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs you can imagine that was quite a confronting scene for our responding officers, we have put welfare around those officers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Taylor said it was a \u201ctraumatic event\u201d and \u201cvery confronting\u201d for all involved.<\/p>\n

He also confirmed a family liaison officer had been appointed to the man\u2019s family.<\/p>\n

Three other people found inside the hotel room were arrested by police but have yet to be charged.<\/p>\n

Taylor said the State Coroner had been advised, and the Ethical Standards Command had begun a full investigation into the incident.<\/p>\n

The investigation will also be subject to independent oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission, an agency that focuses on combating major crime and reducing public sector corruption.<\/p>\n

Last month, a 19-year-old man was shot and critically injured by police<\/a> during a welfare check in Brisbane\u2019s north.<\/p>\n

Emergency services were called to a home on Akebia St in Arana Hills, where the teenager was armed with a knife and experiencing a mental health episode.<\/p>\n

The officer who discharged the firearm is understood to have been a first-year constable.<\/p>\n

Police said a taser was deployed during the incident, but the timing of its use would form part of an investigation.<\/p>\n

The incident unfolded inside the lower level of the home, with the man\u2019s mother witnessing the confrontation.<\/p>\n
