Actress Natalie Portman has shared a rare glimpse of her life in Paris during her third pregnancy \u2014 over 10 years after she quit the U.S. in order to settle down in Europe with her kids.<\/p>\n
The 44-year-old actress, who recently announced she is expecting a baby with her partner, French musician Tanguy Destable, took to Instagram to showcase her life in the City of Lights, where she lives with her two children from her previous marriage to Benjamin Millepied.<\/p>\n
In her post, she shared a carousel of photos, beginning with a selfie taken in front of the Seine. The shimmering lights of the city and the gorgeous architecture could be seen in the background.<\/p>\n
The social media post also included snaps of art, nature, and pink flowers. There were also photos of a dog lounging in front of a pile of books, as well as a puppy sitting outside. At the end of the slides, she shared a picture of herself walking outside at night.<\/p>\n
Portman moved to Paris from Los Angeles in 2014, when Millepied accepted a job as director of the Paris Opera Ballet.<\/p>\n

Portman has continued to reside in the French city even after they revealed they had split in 2023.<\/p>\n
The actress, whose divorce was finalised in March 2024, has since moved on with Destable, with whom she recently revealed she is expecting a baby, who will be a younger sibling to the two kids she shares with Millepied.<\/p>\n
\u201cTanguy and I are very excited. I\u2019m just very grateful. I know it\u2019s such a privilege and a miracle,\u201d she told Harper\u2019s Bazaar in April.<\/p>\n
The actress revealed that she was \u201cawed\u201d to be pregnant again, adding that, as the child of a fertility doctor, she grew up hearing about how many women struggle to conceive, which has helped her to see how lucky she is to be welcoming another child.<\/p>\n
\u201cI grew up hearing about how hard it is to get pregnant,\u201d she shared. \u201cI have so many people I love who\u2019ve had such a hard time with it that I want to be respectful around that as well.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s such a beautiful, joyous thing, and it\u2019s also not an easy thing, and so I know how lucky it is. I\u2019m very aware, and I\u2019m very grateful. I have deep appreciation and gratitude.\u201d<\/p>\n
Portman, who shares children Aleph, 14, and Amalia, 9, with Millepied, noted that \u201cthere is a gratitude that, when you\u2019re young, you don\u2019t necessarily grasp, and there\u2019s a calm and knowing myself: who I want to spend time with, what kind of energy I want around me, that makes the experience so beautiful every day. And knowing it\u2019s probably the last time, I cherish every moment.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added that she is feeling better than ever amid her third pregnancy: \u201cI have more energy than I thought I might.\u201d<\/p>\n
She noted that this latest pregnancy is similar to her previous two, adding that she is staying \u201cstrong\u201d by swimming, doing gyrotonics, and spending time with her children, \u201cwhich is always the best.\u201d<\/p>\n
Because Portman is already a mum of two, she admitted that she isn\u2019t paying much attention to the chatter online or pregnancy help books.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m not really looking at social media that much. I think maybe just having done it twice before \u2026 I read so many books the first time, and now I\u2019m like, \u2018Oh, we know what to do,\u2019\u201d she confessed.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s OK. You figure it out. We\u2019re going to make lots of mistakes, no matter how hard we try. And also, we\u2019re going to do a lot right without having to do research. I feel like if you\u2019re just present and loving, that\u2019s the best thing possible.\u201d<\/p>\n
The actress also revealed that she has yet to experience any odd pregnancy cravings, adding that she\u2019s just been eating lots of pineapple and melon.<\/p>\n
Portman \u2014 who was born in Jerusalem and raised in New York \u2014 did not open up about where she plans to raise her third child. However, she will likely remain in France, where she has lived for over a decade.<\/p>\n
Shortly before the move, the actress gushed about her new home city, telling Marie Claire that Paris was \u201cone of the most exciting places to be in the world,\u201d while praising the city\u2019s impressive art scene.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s really central in terms of the arts. It feels like things are happening in L.A., you know? New York is more where art is bought than where art is made. When Ben asked me if I wanted to go to Paris, I freaked. Everyone dreams of living in Paris,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
However, following her split from Millepied in 2023 amid rampant rumours that he\u2019d had an extramarital affair, some questioned whether Portman would return to the U.S. and take up residence in either L.A. or her native New York.<\/p>\n
Portman previously explained her decision to remain in Europe, revealing that she finds the city\u2019s penchant for \u201cprivacy\u201d enables her to feel much more comfortable about carrying out her day-to-day life with her kids, without worrying that there\u2019s a paparazzo lurking around every corner.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019re very good at privacy here,\u201d she told Net-a-Porter.<\/p>\n
She said that the \u201cbiggest compliment\u201d one can say about a Parisian is \u201cElle est tr\u00e8s discr\u00e8te,\u201d or \u201cShe is very discreet.\u201d<\/p>\n
However, privacy from prying eyes is not the only amenity that the city offers to Portman, who said she continues to revel in the Paris culture, while noting that by basing herself in France, she essentially gets to go on a \u201cvacation\u201d any time she needs to travel for work.<\/p>\n
\u201cEven when it\u2019s cold and gray, there\u2019s always some incredible exhibit or concert or dinner party or writers in town; something fascinating and stimulating happening \u2026 and the frequent vacations are so clutch!\u201d she joked.<\/p>\n
As for the cultural differences between France and the U.S., which have led some Americans to stereotype Parisians as \u201crude,\u201d Portman noted these stigmas have only arisen from a lack of understanding of other ways of life \u2014 and an \u201cassumption\u201d that all Western cultures \u201care the same.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not true: it\u2019s extremely specific here, and the culture is very different in both deep and surface ways,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
In fact, Portman said her kids are being exposed to far better social etiquette from their peers in Paris than they ever would be in the U.S., noting that all of the youngsters she has met have been nothing but polite at every opportunity.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll the kids that come to my house are, like, \u2018bonjour Madame\u2019 and give me [a kiss on each cheek],\u201d she shared. \u201cAnd before they leave, they are, like, \u2018thank you for having me.\u2019 And if I\u2019m not nearby, they\u2019ll come and find me to say it.\u201d<\/p>\n
However, Portman has not cut all ties with the U.S., opting to retain a residence in the Los Angeles neighbourhood of Los Feliz \u2014 a staggering property she purchased in 2009 for $3.3 million.<\/p>\n
The dwelling is situated in a gated community and offers ample space for the actress and her children whenever they are in the city.<\/p>\n
Eight years after snapping up that abode, Portman purchased a second California property in the form of a beautiful \u2014 and very modern \u2014 Montecito dwelling, which she picked up for $6.5 million in June 2017.<\/p>\n
However, after relocating to France, Portman opted to offload the home, quietly selling it in an off-market deal in 2021. That deal netted her quite the tidy profit, with records indicating that the buyer spent $8 million on the dwelling \u2014$1.5 million more than what the actress paid.<\/p>\n
