Joao Fonseca has called out some of his own fans\u2019 behaviour during his second round match at the Italian Open on Saturday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Brazilian world No.29 suffered a 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(1) loss to Hamad Medjedovic in what was a lively encounter. Throughout the match, numerous members of the crowd were heard calling out, which disrupted play multiple times. During one stage, Medjedovic was heard saying to the umpire \u2018Tell them to shut up and let me serve. I\u2019ll play.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n

The umpire then responded,\u00a0\u201clisten.. It\u2019s gonna be loud. There\u2019s gonna be some people talking. I\u2019m trying my best to control them. Keep playing. You have to play.\u201c<\/p>\n

Despite the highly animated atmosphere, Medjedovic still managed to claim victory, winning 10 of the last 11 points. Speaking afterwards, the Serbian said the crowd \u2018helped\u2019 him but opted not to elaborate any further about their behaviour.\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, Fonseca has since criticised some of his supporters\u00a0when speaking with ESPN Brazil<\/a>\u00a0on Sunday. Explaining that some of their tactics affect his concentration during matches.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not going to say that was the reason I lost because it wasn\u2019t, but the fans really do matter. Brazilian fans sometimes think it\u2019s just a soccer game. I love the fans, but there has to be some restraint and respect. It\u2019s not just that it distracts the other guy\u2014it distracts me too,\u201d\u00a0said Fonseca.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just a question, but I still love playing with fans, with people cheering and rooting for me,\u201d he \u00a0added.<\/p>\n

Fonseca is currently on a three-match losing streak and has only won three matches in five clay court events played on the ATP Tour so far this year. In Madrid, he was beaten by the Spanish rising star Rafael Jodar.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously, people will ask if Jo\u00e3o is more frustrated than usual. It\u2019s about the opportunities\u2014they\u2019re coming fewer and fewer\u2014but I\u2019ve already identified that issue and I\u2019m working hard to improve,\u201d\u00a0Fonseca explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnother lesson, another chance to grow, different points. Tennis is great because the following week there\u2019s another chance to go out there and play your best. So we move on\u2014after a tough loss, we move on with our heads held high.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 19-year-old is one of the best-known young players in men\u2019s tennis. He has won two ATP titles so far in his career, as well as the 2024 Next Gen Finals.\u00a0<\/p>\n
